Canon 35mm f2 - Anyone own one?
Sort of like the 50mm f1.8. Cheap, but useful. I bought the 50mm f1.4 and I'm enjoying it, but I thought I'd widen the field a bit. The 35mm f2 gets decent reviews except for the plastic build and noisy AF, both of which I can live with. Just wondered if anyone here has personal experience with one.

the noisy af does get annoying some times, but for the price, it's a great lens! it has a nice macro focus and it delivers some crisp photos

So far, I like it. First couple of pics.
Miss Cal ![]() Ollie (major crop) ![]() I took a pseudo-macro shot earlier of just the lens cap. Nice and sharp, but some CA around the letters. Have to watch that. Full shot ![]() Major center crop ![]() CA around the lettering. Nothing huge, but there.

looks like you might just have to avoid taking pictures of words, or things with fine edges, then you won't notice the CA
Looks like you're enjoying the lens! |

So much so that I can't see myself using my 50mm f1.4 much. I like the view on this one better. We'll see when better weather arrives and I start shooting more.

On major crops the really high contrast areas will have CS. You really need to "zoom" way in, though. And then it's only if there are really bright areas.

Keep that 50 around though, it will be really nice for portraits. I like throwing my 50mm on when i have family around and i'm in a dark house. Lets lots of light in and gets some nice shots, especially with a flash. it's also nice to have a light and compact lens on the camera with family around, makes you more maneuverable. I have lenses that will take better pictures then the 50mm, but the convenience and mobility of it is nice from time to time. |

You could also consider the 28 f1.8 - it's a bit more expensive than the 35 f2 but has a bit better build quality and FTM like on the 50 f1.4 (which i also own and love). the extra 7mm is nice on a crop body. Just something to consider! I decided to avoid the potential hassle of having to find a sharp copy of one of the Sigma primes in this focal range, but short of L glass it's basically between these two Canons and the Sigmas at this price range.
