Pole Position - Indoor Go-Karting
I just went racing with a few BMW buddies today and had a blast.
I became a member because it's so close and the track/cars were pretty good. They are electric, but do get up to 45-50mph, and you get that instant torque that you don't get from gas karts. The track is flat and well paved but no elevation changes or banked turns like GPNY. The place just opened up 2 months ago so everything is fresh and new. GPNY has worn out/tired karts and you pray that you get a good kart. Here, I switched karts 3 times and still got very consistent times. My first time on the track I put down a best time of 22.5 sec. Second race I got it down to 21.9 sec. Third, 21.2 sec. Again, all were on a different kart and they were all decent times (22's you're ranked as an "Intermediate" and 21's are "Expert") . With all that said, I asked for an endurance/iron man race (1hr non-stop) and they said if we could get 10+ people together, they can make it a private event. Price should be anywhere from $90-$130 per person... but it's not a definite yet. Would any of you be interested for such an event? I have 3-5 people already. PS. This has to be on a weekday, after 5-6pm (they close at 10pm).

The parking lot is HUGE and always empty on the sides of the building, even on weekends. It's a great area for a meet and karting.

hell yeah,
GPNY meets are always fun, and its a good way to test our driving abilities against each other I'm sure there will be enough interest if a meet is proposed

I was actually going to go there around the end of December/beginning of January for my boys birthday but we got smacked with a big ass snow storm so I had to go into work...
Never got to go but I wouldn't be able to make it on a weekday anyway... Looks like hell of a lot of fun tho.

Depends where you are coming from.
Without traffic, from Howard Beach, Queens, 45-50 minutes. From Astoria, 30 minutes. Those of you coming from Queens, DO NOT cut through the city. You will be stuck there for hours. Instead, take the 59th street bridge (queens bor.) to FDR heading south. Take that all the way down till it meets up with the West Side Highway, up north to Holland Tunnel. This way you go on the contour of Manhattan and you don't get stuck in traffic. Best way to get from the east side to the west side (or vice versa), believe me.

$90-130 isn't really THAT bad. Considering its for an hour. GPNY is ~$25 per race at like 10 minutes per race.
I could probably gather 10 people myself. Our customers are always asking about stuff like this. |

You have to get lucky with a good kart. Most tires are unevenly worn out too. I have yet to try their strato karts, which are supposed to be new and faster. They are also much more expensive and you have to pay for a "lesson" before you can drive those karts. Quote:
It's such a pain going up there though because it's during the week, and around 7pm. This means that you'll be traveling through rush hour traffic to get there. It took me over 2 hours last time from Jersey City because of stop and go traffic everywhere! Anyway, Sal if we can get a decent turnout, the owner said that they would even rent out the track to us for a weekday event.

Ganna be at Pole Position tonight around 6PM with a few friends.
PM me if you want to come through and meet up. Tonight is one of the best nights to lay down some good lap times because it's one of the least crowded nights.

Open to all.....
Who know what a racing line is. We were there today and had a blast. We did 4 races. Some very good drivers. One of the best was a 14yr old kid. Fast as hell but computers were down so now lap times tonight. Tuesdays they open up the supertrack (both tracks connected). Around 4-6pm it's not crowded at all. First few laps it was only 3 of us. So I think the best day for this meet would be on a Tuesday at 6:30PM just to give people enough time to get out of work and make it here.

6 people seem to be at a definite yes.
I have 3 on my side, and I'm sure a few more will show up when we schedule the meet. I'll keep everyone updated as soon as I hear back from the owner... Still haven't gotten a response.
