Homemade cold air intake

Just wondering if anyone has had success fitting a homemade cold air intake.
Is it possible to buy intake tubing and tube the filter to outside the engine bay like most cai's. Somewhere behind the bumper?

Yes. Allmotor has done that. He cut a hole in the airbox and routed some tubing next to the brake duct. It's very similar to Dinan's setup.

Allmotor did not do that. He simply copied the dinan set-up where they bring in cold air form the lower front bumper.

What i am asking is if anyone has eliminated the air box completely and used aluminum intake piping to relocate a cone filter outside the engine bay (for example behind the lower front bumper)

Several CAI for other cars do this with good results....why hasnt this been done for our cars?

there's really not that much room to work with to fit an air filter down there, that's why people mainly use the piping to redirect the air. Still need a box to prevent heatsoak with that option though. The size of the filter you can actually fit behind the lower bumper grill prob won't be a large enough size to be more efficient than what say the dinan intake is.
