New 335d extra fuel economy and faster
Was looking on the BMW site at getting a newer 335d and noticed that the newer ones (2010 only?) have better mpg and are faster.
Does anyone know what changed and how it affected performance. I thought the last change to the engine was 2008 with the addition of ED? Doesnt seem to be all the 2010 cars. 42.8 and 5.9 secs to 62 vs 37.7 and 6.1 NEW- Cylinders: 6 Output (hp): N/A Max torque (Nm): N/A Fuel type: Diesel Engine size (Ltr): 3.0 Top speed (mph): 155 0-62 mph (secs): 5.9 Urban mpg: 31.4 Extra Urban mpg: 54.3 Combined mpg: 42.8 CO2 (g/km): 174.0 ======= 2009 model Cylinders: 6 Output (hp): 286 Max torque (Nm): 580 Fuel type: Diesel Engine size (Ltr): 3.0 Top speed (mph): 155 0-62 mph (secs): 6.1 Urban mpg: 27.4 Extra Urban mpg: 47.9 Combined mpg: 37.7 CO2 (g/km): 177.0 |

It's not the new 300 (ish) break engine is it?
Having said that, if this upgrade was due it would be all over the forum!

You weren't comparing Touring (6.1s) to Coupe (5.9s) were you?!

No he is right. I noticed it when I ordered my new 335d last August and was comparing it to used models pre 2010. Tbh, Im yet to get above 37mpg on a combined cycle so really dont think there is any difference between the cars.
BMW probably just didnt update their figures after they introduced ED (Efficient Dynamics). |

@FPO I only get 32mpg on a combined cycle in my slightly older 335d so maybe its always about 5 less than quoted
More power, more mpg and less CO. Sounds like win win. Also noticed even the new 320d is now faster (185 bhp and better mpg) |

I reckon BMW have just adjusted the figures a bit. ED has no more torque or bhp and weighs the same so better mpg is possible, but better acceleration isn't.
