Buying new tyres
In the March issue of the BMW Car Club mag there’s an interesting letter to the Editor about winter tyres, within which it states:
Quote :- “Vehicles that are covered by manufactures warranties should only be fitted with tyres recommended by the manufacturer.” Unquote Is this factual? When I bought my winter tyres the thought never occurred. I just didn’t think to shop around for the makes BMW were quoting me. Come this autumn looks as though I will be on eBay with my new winter tyres! |

It's bollocks. As long as the load index and speed rating meet or exceed the OEM specification then it doesn't matter which particular tyre manufacturer the car manufacturer is in bed with at the time. Who, in their right mind, would recommend Bridgestone RE050A?

They also cannot void warrenty unless the specific item that varies from OEM i.e. tyres have a direct relation to the problem. So a HPFP issue they couldnt argue it's the tyres.
