Such a noob

Morning all,

So i just got 320 delivered last week was too busy drooling and ignorantly took up tyre rim protection package, now i've got the warning on dash.. Thought to myself.. Its covered (naive) rocked up to my dealer.. Was forewarned if puncture by nail i gotz to pay for it, package only covers extensive damages like blowouts.. Sidewall damage etc.. Considering to just make use of cooling off period grab my $800 premium and just go aftermarket tyres and rims ..1) it looks cooler 2) its "cheaper" to maintain than RFT...90% of the time.. Puncture by nails and easily patched up anyways resulting in me on top of premium .. Having to pay for patchups
Thoughts please?

What is Tyre and Rim Insurance?

Purpose of Tyre and Rim Insurance

This Tyre and Rim Insurance is designed to cover you
if your motor vehicle or your motorcycle’s tyres are
punctured
, suffer a blowout, or are damaged by various
road hazards
such as roadside kerbs, potholes and road
debris.
It also provides cover for damage to rims as a
result of the same hazards.

--------------------------------------

A nail is 'road debris' is it not?

Definition of Debris:
a. The scattered remains of something broken or destroyed; rubble or wreckage.
b. Carelessly discarded refuse; litter.

I'm SURE you picked up that nail didnt you when you ran over that wooden crate that was strewn all over the road. (It must have fell off the back of someones trailer and it destroyed all over the road leaving DEBRIS).

Read your PDS for full details .

And wow $800, that hurts... you paid full RRP. I negotiated them down to $495 for the Premium Cover.

.

Update... it actually says this in the PDS anyway.... you are covered.

Tyres

If during the period of insurance any tyre on your
motor vehicle or your motorcycle is accidentally
punctured, damaged or suffers a blowout as a result
of it being driven over potholes, nails, screws, kerbs,
glass or other road debris, we will pay for the cost of
the repairs or replacement of the damaged tyre up
to the maximum amount as shown in your policy
schedule for each policy year.

Good information QLD. Thanks for that.

OP they're playing with you. Print out the PDF for them and tell 'em you'll pick it up at the end of the day

Do you mind if I ask what Tyre size you currently have? As you suggested yourself, it is quite possibly cheaper to go and buy non OEM tyres and have them fitted than it is to continue to maintain your RFT's (not to mention the ride improvements!)

Have a look at tirerack.com (US) or St Georges in NSW You can easily sell your current tyres on eBay to further subsidise the cost..

Just a thought, and enjoy your new car!!!

Thats exactly what I did.

I had the car a couple of weeks then sent them an email saying I was interested... but not at that ridiculous price offered.

I said come back to me with a price under $500 and you can sign me up.

Had an email 20 mins later with an offer of $495.

I signed up!
