Tire Install Shop, LI
Hi All:
Decided to get rid of the ole RUN-FLATS and need to get the new tires mounted/installed on the 3er. Where do you guys recommend I go in Eastern Nassau / Western Suffolk Country area - where they wont scratch my wheels and do a good job? Thanks in advance for your help. KC

kenny if you don't go to Matt, you could try all weather tire in huntington. I've pretty much used them exclusively for the past 10 years for tire mounts and patches. The only thing I don't let them do is mount on the car. Call me OCD....but I'm not sure how well regulated their impact wrenches are....and prefer to bolt the wheel up myself with a torque wrench. I've had bolts from them and dealers that where way over torqued.

I agreed to pay $80 since it was quite a bit of a drive from my home and less than any other shop quoted. Later on that day I went on the highway and noticed vibration at 55-60 mph. Had to go back this Saturday for re-balance. They noticed that all 4 wheels were a little bent on the inside. Not visible to the eye but visible on the machine. Well the balance was still off according to computer. Old tires had no problems with vibration so I insisted on re-balancing and putting them back on. Vibration is almost gone now but when I got home I noticed that every lug nut hole on all 4 wheels has a circular scratches from the rotating wrench. Not only the clear coat is scratched but it grooved into the metal. Will call them Monday when they open but I doubt that they will refinish my wheels-). Hope to get my money back though. So my take is, yes probably if you are a relative, long term customer or a friend they perform the work with extra care. Otherwise it is mass production shop with no attention to details and if you are not watching over their shoulders they can screw the work as they did on my car. Very disappointed but a lesson learned. |

Where in LI are you from? i know a local spot near me which is pretty good. Just had them put new tires on my oem m6 rims for my e60. they were very careful and didnt scratch one rim, they even took off the oem tires without damaging them because i needed to sell them.
Overall great spot. I recently ordered new tires for my e92 and asked how much would it cost to mount and balance them, they told me they would only charge $20 a tire for my e92. The place is called County Tires, its in Lindenhurst. |

For the record, since I started this thread, I feel compelled to share my .02.
I stopped by All-weather tire in Huntington as this place is literally 10 mins from my house and decided to give them a try. To my dismay it looked like a MASS Production shop like Oleg advised above and just didn't feel safe enough to leave my car there. If it was my beater, sure but not my E90. It seemedas though were literally jacking up cars on the side of the road and removing the wheels off to mount new tires inside. So I decided to leave and use Matt@Cambertoe. I don't know how it would have worked out had I stayed and got service from them, but I just didn't feel comfortable. I'll post a review for Matt@Cambertoe another time...

btw if you want a place to mount tires, get it rd force balanced, and don't mind paying a bit more top dollar...you can try this place which is down the rd from all-weather. They are a performance shop so you'll have to set up an appt, and or drop the car off. You cant just stop by and have tires mounted. I've never been there but i know Javier from back in the day.

interesting, is this from 335 bmw manual? I do remember that on the previous bmw models (at least 1989-1995 period) it was never recommended.
nevertheless if they carelessly scratched the rims they had great chances to screw up the differential too. |

I don't ever let All weather mount up my wheels on the car. I do that myself at my home. So they have never scratched my rims...they actually inspect them before working on them and point out all the scratches to me. So that we'd know they didn't add any. |
