Tires are the only part of your vehicle that actually make contact with the ground, therefore they are very, very important. Don't cheap out on them. $650 is a little on the low side for good tires (installed and everything) - at least for a Bimmer.

Coupe or sedan? What size tires (e.g. 255/35/R18; probably different for front and rear)? What kind of driving conditions?

I may get flamed for saying this but you can get some pretty good used tire sets on eBay for 650 or less. Just be careful and do your homework.

check out tire rack or discount tires. Off the top of my head the falken ze-512 is about your price range never had them but read good reviews on them. What are you looking for out of your tires? or do you just want anything for 650?

Save another few hundred and get something like Extreme Contact DW. I'd say stay away from V12's if you want a serious tire.

The V12 Evo is a very good tire for the price, but the Conti DW will have better dry grip, quieter ride and likely longer wear.

I personally like General Tires. They are made by Continental Tires. I've had them on a couple of my cars and I like them. Falken are pretty good and normally in the same price range as the General Tires. Gary is a tirerack rep and they sell General Tires if you have more questions about them. At the end of the day as long as you do your homework and find the tire that best fit your driving conditions, then you'll be good. Since you say you are not familiar with tires go to www.tirerack.com and do a tire comparison. It gives you a lot of good information about what all the numbers are on the tire like size, tread, etc. Which is really good to know.

You ain't lying there Gary

And the operative part of that sentence is 'for the price'

People go for them due to the price, but they don't handle worth $hit and their grip is not good in dry or wet either - don't bother trying to drive fast in the rain. Add to that the loud noise they start to make after a couple 1000mi, and the fact that you're lucky to get 12k miles outta them, and you have just negated the $200 you think you've saved.

Falkens are same if not worse. If you're gonna use either of these tires you might as well save even more $$ and buy WalMart tires...

My factory Conti RFT's were better in every respect.

Guess I can't fault people for buying though - there was a time when I didn't have $$ to spend on good tires. Back then I was happy if they were round at some time and were made of rubber.

I went with the Conti ExtremeContact DW - still what I consider a mid price at around $768 for staggered setup.

Steering response with the DW's will come up to more what you're used to with the stiff sidewalls of RFT's if you add 2-3psi over usual tire pressures. I found 39 psi in front & 37psi in rear worked for me.
