Cars run much better in the warmer weather...
I have noticed this on a few cars. When the weather warms up the ride seems to get better, there are less rattles/noises and they just seem to 'go' better.
My old Chimaera suspension used to rattle nicely in the winter until you had done a good few miles to warm the bushes/dampers. Winter is just crap for everything ![]() |

Engines produce more power the colder it is, as the air is more dense, but I agree, there are less squeaks and rattles when its warmer, I suppose as plastics are a little softer and they all expand a little making a closer fit.

Was only think that this morning. A month a go the car was still in the shade at 8:30am taking the lad to school. Then it was half in the sun & the rear window was still white with frost whereas the front was clear. Now its full sun at 8:00am.
Consumption is deffo better & the engine seems better from the off & the gears dont hesitate as much plus the engine stays warmer for longer. In the colder mornings when the coolant was 3 degrees after a cold night it would drop right back to say 8 degrees when it came to pick the lad up from school. Yesterday, after standing since being used in the morning it was 25 degrees. Winter tyres ............... leave on a little longer cos I cant believe we wont get another cold spell which is hard to imagine looking out the window. ![]() |

Read the million winter tyres threads - winter tyres are for all cold / wet weather less than average 7 deg C, i.e. still up to now just about. Mine are still quiet, smooth, handling well, grippy and surefooted on part frosted country roads in the morning and wearing hardly at all. Time to get 'em off this weekend I reckon, just need to find a spare hour! |

They are night and day, 1 million, million times better. The combination of the recent spark plugs change and tuning plus the tyres has totally transformed the Golf into something even more incredible. When I stab the accelerator under turning now, the tyres grip instantly and the torque steer is now simply a quick pull in the direction I've turned - no wiggle at all. They are so much better than the Sessanta's that I am just plain shocked. I've never known such a difference in performance from any part I've fitted. Its literally like pre and post remap the difference is so vast. Matt |

Removed the winter tyres on my 320D M-Sport 2/3 weeks ago.
Found manhandling the summer rear 255’s on to the hubs tricky, due to their size & weight. The hubs have a small spigot but will only locate when the wheel is vertical, which you have to hold in position and turn to locate for the wheel bolts. My six-pack is just not up to it nowadays. Found it best to use a lever under the tyre to hold in position and take the weight. Even better to have another pair of hands to assist for the 255’s. They are big and heavy. Well for me they are! ![]() |
