PDC - Front and Rear

Hi Guys

I've ordered a new 320ed, with PDC on the front and rear. My missus has it on her 1 series, and it drives me nuts! Firstly, it seems you have to turn on the front sensors (rears activated by reverse gear), and then when manoeuvring forward, they seem to timeout! So driving up to the house, I have to turn them one, and keep pressing the button as I drive up to the house....

Is there anyway to keep them turned on at the front, like the rear?

Cheers, Paul

Can't say the ones on my 330d time out ... though I haven't checked specifically.

I guess if they have something to 'work on' then they will stay on. Maybe turn then on a bit later ? I put mine on when I have slowed and need to know how close to my fence I can get - as opposed to when I first enter the drive.

Timing out is interesting, does anyone know if this is the case. My wife has reported the fronts failing to beep on our X5 a few times but it never does it for me, perhaps there is a timeout although they still show the graphical display on screen just not making any noise.

As we turn into our road, neighbours cars are all over the shop, and being a tight road, I like the front sensors on to make sure when swinging in i dont hit anything. There is then a 20 yard run upto my house, and a small log wall. By the time i get to the log wall the front sensors are off again.

On my ordered 320, i have idrive, so will get the display too, but it just seems strange that they timeout....

I usually end up turning mine off, as they stay on too long

You're driving too fast
They switch off over 5 (?) mph.

Imagine the nuisance factor in city traffic if they stayed on above 5mph. Maybe your dealer can recode them to turn off at a slightly higher speed or something.

Gonna test tonight - will crawl up my sul-de-sac and see if they stay on! Thanks to all contributors :-)

Should be standard fit on Audis.

It might annoy them enough on the motorways to leave a decent gap

Your useage is unusual maybe? I don't think the system is meant for use while driving up the street!! It's meant for parking / manouvring.

You can't turn the sensors on separately can you?

Front and rears come on with reverse gear and front and rears come on when you press the button.

If you want sensors on without reversing first then you have to press the button - how else would it work?

After pressing the button or coming out of reverse gear they stay on for some 10 or so seconds or so, not sure about speed, but again, the average user has finished with them by then and wants them to go off.

Nope brain waves not involved. I guess i'd thought they may stay on in reverse or first gear or low speeds? Or that the ten second/5 mph thing was adjustable.

They do stay on indefinitely in reverse, and when in first they time out for convenience so you don't have to do it yourself.

They are park distance control - for parking - I think they are not meant for general use when driving up the street!!

Usually when parking you might select reverse / first / reverse / first then stop. Finished. Then it works fine.

just tried mine, they time out, not speed related.

I put them on and drove off, was doing 50 odd before they went off.

Do any of you have visual display on screens for PDC as well as the audible warnin? Just wondering when they time out does the noise stop but the screen still shows them working or does the screen close down too?
