Ongoing Brake Pad Warning Message Light Problems
I've had my car into the dealership twice for a faulty brake pad replacement message. Both times I brought it in it said my brake pads are 3XX,XXX miles past due! They replaced both pad sensors and reset it both times. First time it went away for a few months, this last time it only lasted about a month. Brake pads have 6mm front and 9mm rear, far from the 3mm minimum thickness needed to trigger the wear sensor.
I've seen that there was a service bulletin released back in 2008 (SIB 34 02 08 "Erroneous Brake Pad Replacement Message"), which I am trying to get a copy of. Are there any further developments on/solutions to this problem? |

Best solution...get rid of them. Very easy to do as well, just strip back the wires and connect them together. Problem solved and you'll never have to look at the light again.

I was thinking the same thing, I'll wait to see what the dealership says first (my car is out of warranty, but this is a 'preexisting condition' so they may take care of it for me). If not, is there a DIY somewhere on how to do that?

Had a similar problem. The solution in my case was a physical measurement on the brake pads / sensor and programing the computer to recognize the correct physical measurement. It was done for free at the dealer.

Update: I was successfully able to reset the brake pad light without removing/replacing any sensors. I doubt it is fixed for good, but at least I don't have to stare at a brake light anymore. If this keeps happening I may have to forgo the sensors altogether. I have a complete car re-programming scheduled for next week, perhaps that will fix this this issue? |

Mine reset after the procedure I described above which was the second visit to the dealer. I brought the car in for a third time about 3months ago and have been good since.
I felt kinda bad for the tech he got in shit for having a third visit. He suggested that if the battery is on the way out it can cause issues such as code resets. This could be likely in my case. I suggest having them doing a battery load test to eliminate this variable. They'll likely do it for free. Good luck. |
