wheels slipping while turning...?
I have searched online and on the forums, but I can't seem to figure out an issue while turning and gasing. The car has new tires and it's not raining, but when I make a turn from a stop, feels like the front wheels are slipping. The best thing I can describe it as like torque steer, only reason I ask is because I just started noticing the other day. My friend was in the car with me and he noticed it too, so I know it's not just me.
After searching online, people had different answers, some say the suspension is shot or there is something wrong with the differential. Anybody experience this? |

My guess is understeer.
Our cars are designed to understeer at the limit. (click to learn about understeer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Understeer)
If you are turning the wheel quickly and applying gas your car will do this purposefully. If you don't like it there are ways the forum members can provide to minimize or reduce the understeer. If you choose to do this be aware that understeer is a sign that you have exceeded your traction limit, and if the front isn't losing grip the rear will. -Tom |

No just a 335i coupe...
Just trying to figure out what's going on. Only happens when I am at a stop, not while driving on the freeway or high speeds, I'm not trying to improve cornering or anything like that. Feels like I press the gas, and it lags a little while I try to turn, as if there is no power for those couple seconds. Then when I am at the end of the turn, the power kicks in? |

Sounds as if you are just experiencing the wonderfully crappy world of electronic throttle response... There is definitely the lag that you are experiencing to some extent every time you hit the throttle from a standing stop. If you want to get rid of the lag, & improve your driving experience for not a lot of $$ - get a PBX & run on Map 3 - you'll see the difference for sure ![]() For the life of me, IDK why car companies ever felt the need to go to electronic throttles (well gas mileage has something to do with it) - the good ole mechanical linkage was tried & true and you had instantaneous response. If it ain't broke - don't fix it ![]()

OP, the description of your promlem isn't very helpful. Either you are not very in tune with your car, or you need a lot more detail in your description.

Turning on Freeway, no issues. For example, I am sitting at a light, trying to turn left onto an adjacent street, waiting for cars that are going straight to pass. Light starts to turn yellow, need to hit the gas and make a left turn before the light turns red. When I do that, I am in 1st gear, there seems to be a lag, or slipping of some sort. Engine revs, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere for a second, then it picks up traction and goes. Weird thing is, I don't hear the tires screeching at all. Could be dsc, I don't know. Not sure how else to explain, this but I can always recreate it. Thanks! |
