AT transmission fluid change

i know this has been discussed before in terms of to change the tranny fluid at 50,000 miles or not. i was at my local BMW dealer today and i asked the SA and he said to change the power steering fluid, and some other fluids that are also "lifetime fluids" i said so how come you recommend changing certain lifetime fluids and not other? he said he's seen cars that never had the tranny fluid changed and have gone for a long time and other cars that did the tranny fluid change at 50,000 miles. is he full of shit? or should i not change the tranny fluid?
