AccessPorts, CPO warranty, and maintenance

I have a 2007 335i purchased as a CPO and would like to purchase an AccessPort. Wanting to keep the CPO coverage intact, which would be the better option:

1. Uninstall the AccessPort and go to the dealer for maintenance. My dealer charges $90 for oil changes, so not too bad, and it guarantees that they won't void my warranty because of maintenance issues.

2. Leave the AccessPort in and take it to an independent BMW mechanic. This would be simpler and potentially cheaper, but I don't know how BMW is about maintenance work performed by an independent mechanic while under warranty.

My new car warranty will expire before my next oil change, so it will only be CPO coverage that I would be concerned about.

Thats the beauty of the AP...just plug it back in and return it to stock, take it to dealer for work, then when you get home, plug the AP back in and get the tune back on. No need for taking anything apart.

$90 for an oil change!!! And you pay that?

Have you tried doing it yourself? It's really easy!

Ramps...
What 17mm drain plug?

Oil filter is on the top of the engine, just replace filter and o rings.

Add oil.

Done.

A couple of years ago, I definitely would've changed the oil myself (like I did with my previous cars), but now with an infant and 3 year old in the house, it's hard to find the time. I might be able to work something out with the wife though. Does BMW care if you do your own maintenance while in warranty? I'd hate for them to blame an engine problem on maintenance since I wouldn't have any official evidence (an invoice, for example) of work being done.

My local Speedy Oil change keeps a record of all my oil changes, and they charge half of what the dealer charges. They've provided me a printout in the past, as proof of milage for insurance reasons. I would find a competent local shop.

just the oil, filter, and o-rings alone are $70, before freight. IDK what the big deal is?

That's another reason why I took my car to the dealership last time. The Tischer kit is already $70, so for $20, they'll change the oil, do a quick inspection, etc.

I was under the impression if something expensive (turbos, etc.) failed and the dealer was to perform the repair under standard/CPO warranty. They would send the cars data to Germany, where they would detect the AccessPort tune even if uninstalled?
