ok I didn't believe this either. I obviously rejected my stealers quote of 275 or so. I am at 15k miles. My car is in the shop right now and I have a loaner so now would be the time to do it.

Heres the catch. I have active steering. Does this mean i am doomed to this insane price or what? Let me know and I will call tomorrow and get it done.

$hit that is so expensive.

I heard similar stuff regarding alignment on this car , but its all BS. It was something that the car had to be hooked up to BMW computer during job , or else it would not get done right. The guy at shop told me its partly thru , but there is also a easy trick to go around....

Bandits.....

I've done the same with 2 of my cars. Never had an issue and I do take them in quite often when I'm doing suspension upgrades.

I called the firestone auto care in my area, they gave me BS that they can't do my BMW because its special (even though I don't have active steering). Also they said they can't even do much with the wheels in terms of balancing them.... Last thing they mentioned was, even if the machines can do the alignment they don't have the specs on their computers to do it.

Do I smell BS here?

BS I think this guy said something like cut power to car while he did the alignment. Then this would work without having any fancy machines connected while alignment.

something something like that....

i have AS and paid around 160 from the dealer. what I do is just look around for a coupon on any dealers site under the service special (theres like 10 dealers in my area). then have the closest dealer match that price. works every time

Paid $180 at dealer a few months ago.....figured it was worth the extra cash to have a loaner while other routine maintenance was done.

No reason to pay more than $80 - $100 for an alignment, even in Canada. My shop lets me sit in the car while they're doing it so it's extra accurate.

Dealers man...I called them this week to get prices on parts for a full brake job; they quoted ~ $1360CDN!

comments like this have been extremely frustrating. Please don't say things like this when your not addressing whether a car has active steering or not. Those with active steering looking for useful information coming from people who are rolling their eyes and saying "oh whatever only pay 80$" are not in the same boat as others.

There are lots of shops out there saying they can align these cars properly and they do not have the right machines. A lot of shops will say anything and everything to get your business and then you show up (whether taking off work, canceling appts, etc.) and they can't do anything.

For example, today i called Firestone because of all this hype regarding their alignments. I said my car had active steering, he had to go check what that was and see if it was any different, took the guy 5 minutes just to figure this out. He quoted me the same price, this seemed sketchy to me because of the fact that there is a fundamental difference. I then asked, have you ever done this to a BMW before, and he simply replied No.

Not going to deal with that.

just got my alignment done at a local Townfair tire for $69 with a 30 day warranty. They did my alignment with 19" wheels

My rear is -1.8 on both side
My toe is -0.06: 0.04 driver side & 0.10 passenger side
My total toe = 0.13
Thrust Angle = -0.03
