I'm thinking for someone who lost $23k in court, $400 is nothing for his peace of mind.

Not to make you relive that nightmare, but WTF happened so that the boxster blew the motor? I have never owned a Porsche nor ever dreamt of owning one, but my impression is that their motors are over built and bullet-proof so I am

what are the major symptoms when you have bad VANOS? OP, look in the DIY section for spark plug change. I did mine and it was easier than changing oil. Next time, just give it a shot!

I will give it a shot next time

Well I already relived it so basically was driving down interstate and heard a ticking noise then quickly after engine cut off. Had it towed to Porsche and rod bolt came loose and casued piston to smash through (payed another 2K for that). So ok warranty company covers engines so they send out inspector and inspector says just by looking at motor that I overrevved engine. So I grab a lawyer who just won a case with a Boxster blown engine with warranty denying claim so it was perfect. In the meanwhile I put a 911 Carrera engine in the boxster assuming I will get paid what it costs for my boxster engine. So i spend 10K in labor and DME reading ect creating this 6 inch binder of facts that PROVE I did not overrev the engine. Feeling confident come court day they devil warranty company changes their reason for denial to something totally different than overreving the engine which is against the rules from the Better Business Bureau but they let them anyways! So actual warranty says they cover all internal engine requiring lubrication. On the back of the warranty it says" does not cover bolts.." They EFFING changed their denial to they don't cover bolts so they dont have to pay for the engine which the arbitrator agreed with!!! Wow my blood pressure went up just having to type this So long story short i spent another 13K to have this motor installed thinking Id definitely get the money back so I was out 23K just on those costs. Yea the boxster was a fun car after that but kept breaking and sold it for the 335 with a actual warranty. So you guys can kinda see why I paid the 460. I asked the guy who I sold the Porsche too and he said been running great now for a year

When I get VANOS the car just feels much slower and I get the limp mode. And it is slow after that until I take in to dealer.

I just got mine done at the dealer for $307.. so i'd say you got ripped

I do feel like an idiot.. but to the guy who said spark plugs are easier than replacing oil I call BS... for some reason pics to me are just as confusing as if someone described the install in words.. the only way I can work on cars is if someone shows me in person.. so I said screw it I'll pay the extra $200 (about 100 for spark plugs and tool plus an hour of my time)

Can you DIY cheaper? Of course... was he ripped off compared to other dealer prices?... not really.
You also need to add to that list the DME reset that is to be done when the plugs get changed.

The warranty company was Great Lakes Warranty, bigges thieves of the world! I have a inch binder PROVING I was not racing and did not over rev my engine by sending the DME in to get read ect. I had a lawyer and everything but the abritation bw great lakes and BBB was a whole scam! Makes me want to puke just thinking about it, they just don't want to pay anything. Google it and you will see.

Can anyone chime in on having to pay the $50 deductible if a reoccurring problem keeps making you having to take it in?
No you don't pay the $50 deductible if the car goes back in for the same issue.

@OP changing you own sparks would not have voided your CPO. lesson learned though. now not everyone likes to get their hand dirty and would rather have someone with experience do it. next time look for a local beamer shop.

I found out the same price from my bmw dealer and I was

It is still in there, I am getting wastegate rattle fixed (again) and may get the alarm installed since my 07 is prewired, my '11 328xi loaner has it, and I love the chirp

I will send it when I get it back, but last time I got the wastegates fixed they had it for 7 days
