Air con not very cold and a bit whiffy ?

Used my air con today for the first time in earnest. It whiffed a bit and wasn't really that cold.

Do any of those DIY kits work or is it better to take it too a garage ? I think Kwik Fit were doing it for £40 ?

the aerosol to clean the system are good IMHO! http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165632

Start the car will full recirc aircon on, set off the can and leave shut for 10 mins. kills all the bacteria lurking in the system, hence the smells.

If it wasnt that cold, i would take to a specialist rather than the tin of top up gas from halfords, they are not that great TBH. although to give it credit, i used one on the Mrs Clio and it did work a treat!! just wouldnt use one on my BMW.. no idea why! LOL

+1 - never switch mine off

Any friends I know that do only use it intermittently (or when it's hot!!) complain it smells so they use it less.

it's like a fridge, once turned off, harbours bacteria VERY quickly!

the HFC134a cans are OK if the instructions are followed to the letter, use the pressure gauge and a hand held thermometer to measure the decreasing vent outlet air temperature. An evacuate/vacuum and recharge should be around £60 nowadays.
