Hello,
I am in Canada and I heard we dont have TPMS.

I dont have iDrive either and this is my first time changing from
winter tires to summers.

However I am not sure what I need to do,
if there is no TPMS, how would my car know if runflat is flat or not?

Stab the tire with a big knife, make sure to go all the way through. Now you know it's flat, and you can junk the POS and get some real tires!

Do your cars come with run-flats? If so, you have a TPWS fitted. Are you like the UK, on the 'indirect' wheel speed sensor system (no valve sensors)?

Just reset the system, follow the directions from the user manual using the lefthand indicator/OBC control stalk. No different a function than when changing and/or adjusting tyre pressures.

With engine running, cycle through the control screen until the tyre symbol shows, press end switch once to confirm your choice, then press and hold until the check tick shows, drive off and the system will initialise/calibrate itself without any feedback.

If you don't have TPMS you have the FTM system which works on tire deflection (tires low in psi deflect more and turn more revolutions per mile).

My car came with RFT's and does not have TPMS. The valve stems should be the dead giveaway.

Just get a pressure gauge, though I'm sure the knife method works as well lol.

So are you saying you are like the UK in having the indirect system? Just as Gary from TireRack is saying as well.

BMW don't use the TPMS designation over here anymore, it is as I said in the first post, referenced as TPWS. (Warning not Monitioring).

I understand if any new car has RFTs, there has to be a monitoring/warning system fitted. Are you quite sure you haven't the indirect wheel rotation system, which uses the wheel speed (ABS/DSC) sensors?

Canadian BMWs use the indirect system which will still report a low tire, but cannot pinpoint which one. Either way, the OP needs to invest in a decent tire pressure gauge.

^ +1. Sorry I was away for a couple days. I believe the Canadian LCI BMW's have the TPMS.
