Ride with 17's and 18's

Hi All,

Spoke to someone that has the 17" M sport wheels on now got the 18" MV3's . . he says that the ride with 17's seemed alot more harder and bumpier then 18's

Has anyone else found this ?

I would have thought a 17 with a 45 profile tyre would have been better then an 18 with a 40 profile tyre.

Were the 17s using runflat tires?

If both cars have the same tire then the 17" will have a softer ride.

If we are talking run-flats, stange as it may seem, some models on 18" wheels are a smoother ride than on 17", or even 16" wheels. It is the type of ride, a 17" can be more of a jiggle and feel bouncy. Some of this is down to the sidewall spring rate, it is reported that some 18" RFT's have a lower spring rate than the 17" RFT. Another aspect to consider is the suspension harmonics, some sizes work better on a given suspension set up. So the dynamics do not always conform to what we expect.
