FYI.....E9_ diesel crankcase breather
Ok, we ALL know the grief I have been through with our 320d but when iw as replacing the turbo in ours, I replaced the breather for good measure.
Now I know that the crankcase breather was supposed to have been revised in the E9_ model cars and has done away with the "loo roll" type which I was able to confirm when replacing mine. However, the old one has been lying on my garage floor for a while and after claying and waxing the E91 yesterday (god bless it, thought it was looking sorry) I thought I'd pull the breather apart Well fck me sound........the valve in it was totally and utterly fckd. I mean, half of the ribber diaphragm valve was ripped and stuck to the top of the housing. It seemed to simply have perished. So I would suggest that if your E9'er is edging on towards hagher mileage, to have a check of the old breather or just pony up 50 quid and get it replaced and DISREGARD the fact that the breather was revised from the shat foam type. They still need replaced IMO FYI, we were on 96K miles Jinj |
