Sticky vs Tread life - Tire debate (help!)
Am looking for a good sticky tire while still have better tread than PS2s (current tire that only lasted 11,000 miles).
Anyone have or had Continental ExtremeContact DWs or Hankook Ventus V12 Evos? Looking at them both and am weigh the pros and cons. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I like the PS2 A/S+. I have them on my 335i, and they work fine, good handling, good ride, and they should go 35-40K on the rears at the rate they are wearing.
Were those PS2's the runflat version, or conventional? 11K is a bit on the low side for conventional PS2, unless you drive really agressively or track the car. I used to get 15-20K on them with my E36 M3. |

*edit* They are Non-RFTs. I was really considering those but a couple people said they have noticeably worse steering response than the PS2s, that kind of scared me away. Saw the Hankook Ventus V12 Evos and started considering them... but they have supposedly similarly wear as the PS2s. That's why I need input from people who have had both sets of tires, wanting to see if real world input is the same.

I would go with Hankook Ventus V12 evos because they came in 2nd place when compared to the Michelin PS2s in Car and Driver Magazine.

I've recently been comparing tread life of DW's, PS2's, and V12's. Feedback is mixed. Was told all 3 would be comparable and have read mixed results on reviews. I was leaning to the DW but ended up going for the V12 at a saving of about $250(including rebate) over the DW and $435 over the PS2 or 35% & 60% respectively. It seemed to me I wasn't going to get 35% more tread life out of either, nor was I personally going to get 35% or 60% more enjoyment so I went with the V12. I don't get them put on until early May.

Hankooks have a 260 tread wear rating compared to the Dunlop Star Specs at 200. The Michelin has 220 for reference. The Hankooks will offer more longevity than the Dunlops as the Dunlops will offer more grip as a sacrifice.

I guess that settles it, Hankooks it is. Also found that the gains on the Star Specs extra grip is not a major difference and that the Hankooks would handle better than the PS2s, so that along with the price and tread life difference add up to be the logical choice over all the other tires in its class. So I may not get the BEST gripping tire in it's class but it will at least be better than the PS2s which is what I've had since I got the car. (first RFT version then Non-RFT version) Thanks for the help in making this difficult decision. Will report back once I am past the break-in.
