i have a 2008 335xi coupe. i put this q in this sections because i have no idea whats wrong with the car so it might be engine related. anything over 60mph if im giving it gas i get a steering wheel vibration. this happens on flat smooth straight highway. theres no codes being thrown or anything. so if im going 60 and i give it some throttle all the way to 100mph the steering wheel vibrates all the way to 100mph. but if im cruising at a steady pace no matter what speed it is i dont get any vibration. does anyone know whats causing this?

Do you have aftermarket wheels? Have you had them balanced? Maybe one of your wheels is damaged. I had a bent wheel and that caused my vibration also led to tire wear. Go to a tire shop and have them inspect your wheels and tires.

last year when i would give the car throttle it would shutter and it turned out the injectors needed to be replaced. so it felt kind of like the same thing again so i put some techron in the tank and filled it up and its about 85% better. it says on the bottle you may benefit from using more then one bottle so next fill up i'll do it again and hopefully it will be 100% fixed. does this sound plausible?

Sounds driveline-related since it's only under accelleration. And since you drive an xi and feel it through the steering wheel, I'd be suspicious of the front axles...

If its easy to reproduce, just take it to the dealer. It definitely seems driveline related. It could be a damaged/loose half shaft, bad axle, or any number of other things. Take it in, and report back to the actual cause.

I've experienced a similar behavior in RWD BMW's when the flex disc became worn in the drive shaft. Of course that was not felt in the steering wheel, but it was definitely only present under acceleration. My knowledge of the xi driveline is limited, but it stands to reason that driveline imbalance in an AWD car would be felt through the steering wheel when the driveline is under load.

it could be axle, ball joint, engine mount, or wheel bearing.
let us know if you do figure out what is the culprit, but that would annoy me as hell. thanks |
