Extended warranty on U.S imported BMW
My warranty on my 335i is expiring in about 2k KM.... Just wondering how much it costs approximately and if its even possible to buy extended warranty in canada for a u.s car? Also is it worth it?
Thanks

I'm going to buy extended warranty from CoverageOne (GMAC) thru the local dealer. The price is very reasonable and buying from the bmw dealer makes me hope/pray they'll look after me should i have a major problem. Only thing that worries me are the turbo's and auto transmission.
And yes, mine is a US car, which was properly imported (ie riv, bmw letter etc) |

The warranty is from the BMW dealer where I live, here in Alberta. I dont think they care if the car was imported or not as it was imported properly. They know it's a US car. The price is around $2000 for three years, and 80,000km. My car has sub 50k km on it. This us UP to 80Km.. not 50k Km + another 80k km. I plan on selling the car in a year or two so it'll at least have warranty for the next person. BMW's dont sell easily without warranty. I might even sell the car sooner as the wastegates are starting to rattle and the dealer keeps saying it's normal. No, it's not normal for a fifty thousand dollar car. I hate buying more warranty when BMW wont even honour their own factory warranty. Seems unless the car actually throws a fault code they say everything is normal. My next vehicle will be a non turbo BMW (ie newish X3, plus awd) or I'm moving over to Lexus. Yeah, BMW is nice to drive but i'm sick of taking time off work to visit the dealer who doesn't look after me anyhow. I just need a reliable nice car and i dont drive like a maniac. My friends and family drive Lexus and have no issues and if they do, there's zero issue getting warranty coverage. Plus lexus comes with a six year powertrain warranty. My fathers tacoma is ten years old, tons of km, and has only needed brakes, oil changes and new plugs. My 4runner was the same. And the Toyota dealer doesn't treat you like a P.O.S. As you can tell i'm done with BMW unless i find a nice clean USA X3. I will NOT buy from a Canadian BMW dealer.
I'm really hesitant as after market warranties have a bad reputation but the CoverageOne specifically says turbos and auto-transmission. Let me know if you need more detail. I'll be buying their Ultimate plan which has extended electronics coverage. |

So I did some calling around for extended warranty (from BMW dealer) and this is what I got.
Warranty Company: 3rd party Coverageone. Plan: Ultimate coverage (excludes navi, radio, bluetooth) Cost (the km are an addition onto your existing and not a total combined): $50 ded. (0$ if done at dealer which warranty was purchased) 4yr/ 80k km --> $3900 + tax 3yr/60k km --> $3150+tax 2 yr/40k km--> $2600 + tax The warranty I am looking at is the 3yr + additional 60 k km. What would be a good starting negotiation price? I am looking to start my price at $2500 and work my way up. I know there is room to negotiate, but I just want to see what is a fair price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

For those that are following this thread, I decided to purchase the extended warranty offered by BMW today.
What I got was the Coverage one Ultimate coverage that is good for 7yr/80000km from the date vehicle was in service. This coverage is $0 deductible if taken to the dealer in which you purchased the extended warranty or $50 deductible at any other dealership within Canada and the USA. Contract price was $2157.00 + tax I got them to give me a $600 discount on the contract price and signed the papers (gave me an incentive as I get my work done only from that dealer). I hope this helps anyone out there looking for extended warranty. I suggest you call all your local dealerships for prices (all of them give diff costs) and see what discounts they are giving. For a start BMW Toronto is a great place for an idea of price and discount. They helped me get an idea of what I should be paying and then I did my own research to create a value I was happy with. Overall I am happy and have a peace of mind knowing that if anything happens I will be covered. Goodluck guys. |

I then realized that I don't have a lot of km on my car and probably will not hit that 100 000km target in 3 years. I have 45 000 km right now on my car. I do an average of 11000 km a year. It is tight but I may finish my contract 1-2 months before the time expires as I am forecasting that I will hit about 83 000km at end of 3 years. Still worth it for the $1200 savings from not going to the 100 000km level (which would be a waste for me). |

Mine is at 79,000km now so I'm definitely in need of making some sort of action ASAP. I just don't want to be pressured and rush into the wrong deal or end up paying way more than I need to.
So if I understand correctly, the approximate quote for an additional 2yrs/40k was around 2600 + tax? I went over to Parkview one weekend but they were too busy to sit down with me. I have a useless brochure that provides no price. thanks |

I had 50km on my car and extended the coverage to 100km, and/or 3 additional years for $2400. This was the GMAC Coverage One Ultimate Plan.
Bavaria BMW in Edmonton was the best to deal with. They are by far the best customer service experience i've had (for any auto maker). They are great to work with. Wont rip you off and actually care if you have a problem with your car. Too bad i have to drive three hours to get there but the two useless bmw dealers in Calgary force me to. BMW should pull their franchise rights. Sorry for the rant but they might be able to sell you the warranty over the phone. Call and find out. Make sure you buy while your car still has factory warranty. |

i am debating if i should sell the car (and buy a new one???) or buy the extended warranty... the problem is i put on about 800-1000km per week! yup thats right any suggestions? plus the price of the warranty... is it good? |
