ER FMIC on 2007 E93 - NEAR ambient IAT post install!!

I wanted to post a small review of my Evolution Racewerks FMIC and the issues and results I faced on a 2007 E93.

Prior to the install I used the Procede IAT guage and saw rising IAT with rising oil temps on stock FMIC. As oil temps rose to ~250 degrees F the IAT rose to around 130F. This was on casual driving through some highway and some stop and go traffic in FL with ambient temps at 73 degrees F.

I then took my car in for FMIC install at Lutz Performance Auto and Vince there (I must say is a VERY knowledgeable guy) helped easily dodge the curveball that that the E93 threw at them. They had done numerous FMIC installs and in fact they are a HPF dealer but I chose the ER one and supplied all parts. However, despite the install instructions the ER FMIC would NOT FIT. The driver side pipe would not hook up to the factory mount. There was a separation of about 2 inches and 15-20 degrees of rotation. The driver side pipe off of the FMIC cast aluminum end extends nearly straight up but the connecting pipe on my E93 is more medial and angled slightly. Well after a few unreturned phone calls to Evol. Racewerks.......I needed my car and Vince and crew cut the pipe from the FMIC rotated it and "pie sliced" the native pipe. Then they welded in small triangular pieces to make the pipe fit perfectly to the factory mount location.

Results: Last few days of some spirited and some casual daily driving in anywhere from 70-95 degrees has shown (again on Procede IAT guage) that the IAT are either at ambient temp or nearly always within 5-7 degrees of ambient temp. I say nearly always because in stopped traffic the temps obviously climb but as I travel the temps drop rather quickly. I have to say I was quite impressed with a 50 degree temp drop to ~80 degrees F when I am at 75 degrees ambient temp compared to stock FMIC IAT of ~130 degrees at the same ambient temp. Despite the added labor it cost me for install I am quite happy. Thanks again to Lutz Perf. Auto,...I'll be a return customer for sure.

I apologize to you and Lutz for not being able to get in contact with us. We were out of town that weekend for a race in Phoenix. We had posted it on our website in hopes that people would see it and e-mail us instead.
I got the message on our answering machine from Lutz when we got back Tuesday (we took Monday off, traveling for races is exhausting since we're trailering the car to locations). I called them back but they were closed for the day. Time difference between west coast and east coast time sucks. That day I stayed until 4am as we had to finish a customers car for a race this weekend so again, when I got to work, it was already too late and they had already left.

As for your fitment issue, do you have an automatic? We have 2 different versions of our FMIC. One for manual and one for automatics. The manual FMIC will not fit an automatic. The reason for this is because the automatics have a transmission cooler on the driver's side. For the auto's, the end tank on the driver's side is different to clear the transmission cooler. I think that's the issue you ran into.

I'm happy that our FMIC's performance is up to your standards! Your numbers is consistent with what our FMICs do. Typically near ambient temps with a 4-5 degree delta. Super fast recovery times. Basically the time it takes to shift. It's why our company is known for intercoolers (not just in the BMW market)!

Yes it is an AT but if I recall correctly the paperwork that came with it said AT as well. I left the paperwork with Lutz as I had no need for it once they got it on. Yes the transmission cooler was the reason it was in the way. I suspect from what you say I somehow got the wrong one. In any event I am glad to see that it works as advertised.

If this were the only time I had tried to get in touch with you guys I would not have mentioned it but I had communicated with your shop on several occassions and everytime I had to call your shop back to follow up despite leaving my name and phone number clearly 2 x on your machine and I have no accent so I am sure it was clear. You probably want to address that.

Anyways, kudos for a sweet FMIC!!
