I got a bad tank of gas once and the car kept acting funny. Racegas fixed the problem

if you were tuned it would be a small problem running higher boost, but if you guys think that every time you fill up your getting pristine petro gold 93 oct. your kidding yourself. and theres plenty of people just dumping 87 in the n54 bmws. there cars don't blow up or turn in to pumpkins, the wheels dont turn into squares.

93 is a guide line for ideal performance and longevity, and a excuse for a poorly designed fuel pump. you guys are funny..

If you fill up with diesel; Don't start the car, just drain and cleanout the tank youlll be fine. If you run the car there will be damage. You can't compare Jeep to BMW. The BMW is unlikely to escape serious damage. Jeep is old school and heck more resilient to being fed crap.

Now 87 is not exactly wrong fuel, just poor quality fuel. And one time wont do anything to your car. If your car runs on 87 for prolonged periods eventually there will be hell to pay. I wouldn't even worry. Probably just run lethargic but nothing else.

I dated a girl in St Louis college days, and she had a new Ford Escort, when they launched, like 1984 ish, it actually was a nice car. Anyway, she drove to Florida from STL with a friend, and stopped in a self serve in Murphysboro Tenn or KY, and filled her car up with diesel, and drove on down the hwy, and it started vibrating and smoke came out and it it stopped. She called me and was in tears. My buddy and I hopped in my RX7 and 5 hours later were there at 6am, we went to filling station to make sure there was not Diesel in the 87 pumps, but all was fine. I asked her if she could fit the nozzle in the tank, and she said, no, she had keep it at angle...ayy ayyy ayy.

So, the motor siezed, and the local ford dealer looked at and said it was under warranty, but they discovered diesel fuel in the system. We played dumb, and my GF was hot as a pancake, and she was nice as a person you could meet, the SA liked her, felt sorry she was holed up in the Holiday Inn on Spring Break, and said he put in a new motor N/C, as the car had been recalled the week earlier for engine seizing and he could chargeback Ford under the protocol anyway. 2 Days later she on her way, and we bought the guys a case of beer when we picked it up.

True Story...being a Hot girl has its advantages...

Diesel engines in essence run on "constant spark" and higher compression so its easier to cause combustion. In essence the vehicle runs on knocking.

So it doesnt need as "potent" stuff to run.
"constant spark" Diesel engines dont have spark plugs. Diesel engines in essence run by compressing the fuel to the point of ignition, this is why they have glow plugs, to heat the cylinders for initial start up. A gasoline engine will not run (very long) with diesel fuel due to the flashpoint (D2- >125°F, Unleaded- -40°F) that is too high for spark plugs to ignite the fuel.

One of the guys that does landscaping at our place filled the lawn mower up with diesel and it looked like he was doing a burn out across the lawn. The smoke that was coming out of the exhaust was insane. But it was funny.... because he mowed the entire lawn with a huge cloud of smoke!

Wait with current gas prices could we safely use 87 vs. 91 on a stock tune?

As others have said, I was expecting the story to say you filled up with diesel. You're lucky that didn't happen. I pulled up to a pump once after driving for many, many hours, swiped my card, unhooked the pump, etc., and then a guy came out from the gas station and said, "You're putting in diesel gas!" I looked down and couldn't even believe it. Embarrassing moment.

I've put lower octane gas in my cars before without realizing it (or because I couldn't find the proper octane wherever I was) and didn't have any issues. You should be fine.

I ran out of gas on my motorcycle once, in East Hampton of all places, and the only people even willing to help me were the landscapers at the big estates, so i got a gallon from a guy, paid him double for his efforts, and off I went, only to sputter, and stop 3 mins later. I realized I had 4 cycle oil in the gas, then a cop stopped, and he had a moto, so took me to station and back, and even helped to drain it, and then I filled with gas, took a couple cranks but got going...ayyyayyyayyy
