okay... so i got the grouppe m rep intake...

HELP MEEEEE
i have it on my 325i 6MT and whenever i drive at higher RPM (above ~3500rpm - 4500rpm)
the car accelerates and jerks lil bit and then accelerates again...
at first, my friend and i thought it was the ECU and tried resetting by taking the negative off of the battery... things got reset but the same results...

I got a slighly used one and the filter is not the K&N one...
could it be because of the filter???
does anyone know what the part number is for the K&N filter that goes in the grouppe M intake???

I really need you guys help!!!
I tried searching grouppe M filter but not much results...
HELP!!!

And this was all blamed on AFE a bunch of times with this same thing happening-when really it is the INSTALLER who installed it wrong. Same typical surging due to a leak somewhere from a bad install or messing up the O2 sensor while installing.

Why do people install this crap themselves-90 percent of the time they do not do it quite right and then trash the product and have a car that is messed up-take it to a pro.

Check all the connections-it is a leak, secondarily and O2 that got knocked or misplaced.

Installing the intake is not difficult. IF you do it patiently, and take the time to do it correctly. Half the fun of modding is doing it yerself. Not just to have a "pimped out smokin' ride" or whatever. "Take it to a pro" because you don't have the patience to learn something new is a waste of time and money.

The problem is for the gruppem replica, the front CF piece that fits into the kidney grill is impossible to make air tight due to bad fitment (well, at least for mine anyway)

Even if that was air tight, would it matter? The CF box is completely open, it's not sealed anyhow.. I'm having the same problem the op is having slightly. I think it's going away some though. After reading this post I'm going to double check all the connections tomorrow. I know it's together right though.. (99.9%)

The more I drive it though, I'm pretty sure this is going away. It's still not completely smooth though.

The fitment of that front CF piece was crap though.. I agree with you

PS. I floored it out of a big dig tunnel coming out of boston the other day with my sunroof all the way open. It sounded incredible!!!

That's not the part that has be air tight. Any part AFTER the MAF needs to be air tight. The MAF senses a certain amount of air and balances the fuel load accordingly. If there is an air leak after he MAF, the car won;t run correctly.
The CF lid for the GruppeM is not air tight, either. In fact, there is no bottom to the air box in the gruppe M or the Gruppe M replica.

Sweet Chesmu, thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense.

Btw (for OP's question), the part number for the K&N filter is RC-2960

so wait... if the car seems like its stalling its because of the MAF? not because of the crappy fitment or the air tight compartment (which isn't really air tight because the intake uses one of the engine walls as a side...)? haha crap maybe i should opt for another intake that is completely enclosed...

That's exactly what I'm saying. The air INTAKE should not be air-tight. The more air getting to the filter unit, the better. As long as there is no air leak after he MAF, all should be well. Resetting the battery will allow the MAF to get used to the amount of air it is seeing with the new intake in place, and will help the engine perform to its best.

The fujita is completely lidless
The AFE is by no means air tight
Lots of intakes just have the cone filter in the engine bay, wide open

The only rationale for keeping the intake closed is to keep out hot air.

I think I know which bolt I want to check. There are two bolts holding the maf down. The one closer to the cf was hard to really crank down because the cf curves outword over that bolt. That's the only bolt I was a little unsure of putting the assembly together that I properly tightened it.. I'll check that all out tomorrow as well as everything else and report back..

It is running a lot smoother now though compared to a week ago..
