Exclamation Oil change is bad for your engine

BMW says so! I have a good one for you guys. I was at my dealership today to get my plates. Then I wanted to speak to my service advisor but the guy I use was on vacation so I spoke to one that wasn't busy. I asked him how much they charge for an oil change when "not needed" since I just finished my break-in. He told me how much but then went ahead to basically lecture me about how I shouldn't get it changed before the 15k mark. The least amount of miles he told me I should have is NO LESS than 10k or you could do more harm than good to your engine. Hell, he didn't even know the exact amount of oil a 335i requires when I asked him if I elect to do it myself. "6 or 7 quarts. I think." I have never been impressed with BMW service and I continue not to be. I know there are some service guys here, and there are a few people in the world left who know what they are doing and how to do their job. All I know is these guys don't know shit about shit

hahaha. So we get 50,000 mile service which comes out to 3 paid oil changes, then at about 60,000 miles your motor blows up from the lack of oil changes and BMW makes more money in parts great... I changed my oil at 1500 and will keep changing every 3,000 miles with royal purple full synthetic.

With full synthetic changing at 3k is a little bit of a waste of money (especially with RP), but to each his own.. It's not going to hurt though, that's amusing.. Really with a full synthetic you can go at least 5k.

I heard that you can change the oil but the first filter should be changed after the second oil change. They said that the sediments in the filter will act as extra filtering for new engines. Those little tiny metal particles from the new engine that's stuck onto the filter will help filter more sediments.

think about that for a few minuts, how is non permeable metal going to do anything other than reduce the area of your filter?

Believe me, I almost laughed in his face when he said changing the oil would harm the engine. I kinda wanted to ask him "How did you get this job? Seriously? Your a service advisor and you don't even know how much oil a 335i takes???"

Microscopicly, the reduced area of the filter will filters the finer particles. In which the prolonged filter will eventually clogged. The concept here is filtering of the smaller and finer pariticles.

Lol +1, my SA was flabbergasted as to why I was changing my oil at 1199 miles. He kept trying to convince me that I didn't need it.

Garage List
im a tech and i changed my oil at 1200-1300 miles..... i also agree that most service advisors are retards and totally clueless... i would explain to them a problem with a car im working on and they'll tell the customer something totally different right in front of me..

i cant tell if your being seriouse or not, the filters not going to filter finer particles because theres less surface area, the filter and the gap between the fibres would remain the same, there would just be less area.. which wouldnt be a good thing...

it would be like a coffee filter, covering half the filter with your hand doesnt make the other half filter any better, just clog faster and slow down

A guy at Union Park BMW gave me the same mess when I got my oil changed at 4500mi. He basically acted as if I was retarded for wanting to change my oil before the 15,000 mile mark.

One of his quotes... "I am alot older than you and I have been around more BMW's than you so I know would know that they don't need their oil changed much. The only cars that would need their oil changed regularly are the M-models."

Think about it - would BMW really design a filter that only worked well when full of little particles of metal?
I paid the $87 and had my oil changed at 7000 at the dealer - they didn't try to talk me out of this, they know where they make money
