Interim oil changes....
I was wondering how many of you do interim oil/filter changes.
The CBS interval is pretty variable and long. So how many of you bother to do an interim change of oil/filter? |

I aim to do a change every 10-12 months atleast. The OBC oil/filter change intrevals are way too long imo.
Doing more frequent oil changes does no harm |

I change the oil and filter every 6K-ish. Which at the moment is every 4 months, have the book stamped and the OBC reset each time too.
The oil comes out as clean looking as when it went in - which is perfect by me It's peanuts compared to the overall running costs, and a good indy will only charge half hour / £20 labour and £10 for the filter. The oil I buy from Opie, about £40 / 5 litres, but they do special offers and further discounts if you buy 15 or 20 litres at time. Extended service intervals are about selling cars NOT looking after them, its a trade off - how far can they stretch servicing before failures rates suffer and become unnacceptable? That's the balancing act they play to try and out do the competitors. Last edited by doughboy; 04-19-2011 at 07:57 AM.. |

Mine was done at the 1200 miles, running in oil change, 7k. and according to the OBC will need it again at 15k.

Done when the car says it wants doing. Never had a problem though you won't do any harm having them done earlier, pays your money and takes your choice. Modern synthetic oil and a modern engine though is a far better combination than engines of old.

Ok cool.
I've just had a service at 17,000 I think so I will do another change at 23,000 or thereabouts. I think this time I am going to use Fuchs oil. 5W-30 I think. Currently running 5W-40 IIRC. Any other tips/suggestions? |

I used Fuchs in my last service. Hoping it is a good oil but I took the advice from here.
I do an oil change every 8-10k. I think the 20k the obc suggests which is about 2 years seems too long, regardless of the oil life. |

I agree. I'll be doing the same, changing every 10k which is about 8 monthly.

For me changing the oil gives the same 'feel good' factor as giving the car a good clean. Nice too come sell on time. |
