Changing Speakers NEED HELP

Hello!

I am looking to change my speakers and need to know from someone if they will work....

I am planning on getting:

Two Sets of Hertz DNXE20 tweeters
Two Sets of Hertz EM100 Midrange 4" speakers
Two Kenwood KFC-XW800F subwoofers

I already have:

an eXcelon 5 channel amp
and
a new Kenwood eXcelon DNX9980HD Head Unit

The question is... anyone have the Hertz EM100's? and anyone try the Kenwood subwoofers in the stock space?

I have a E92 2008 328I coupe without Logic7 (just base system)

Thank you in advance!

The EM100s physically fit but are not the optimal speakers for that location. You want something that can be high-passed at a minimum of 200Hz (better 100-150Hz). The Kenwood subs I am 99.99% sure will not fit under the seats and even if they did you would have a huge "hole" in the midbass frequency range. That's why you really want a midbass driver down there, and not a subwoofer.

Thanks. One more question...

Thank you for your reply! Very helpful.

1. I am wondering if there are any speakers from hertz that will work? In the doors and back? Are the front and back speakers both 4"?
2. The ken wood subs I am looking at are 8" shallow subs that should fit fine from a depth perspective? KFC-xw800f.... Anyone use these?
3. You say there would be a hole in the midrange if the ken woods did fit but how are they different than the other subs suggested on here?
4 what would happen if I just made the change with the head unit and amp like noted above but kept the stock speakers until I can figure this out? Would it sound ok for a month or so?? It would be tuned properly, not me

Thanks for your help! Simply great help

There are many side effects when changing the Head Unit
If I was going to do that I would look at the dynavin for features
and the best looking fit not neccesarily sound quality

You have to know which system you are starting out with

There are a list of common substitutions in the first set of links
needs shallow speakers in genral

Talk to Vp Electricity for a complete kit tailored to your needs

Look at Technics threads for low cost system improvements

There is an some DIY's in the DIY Section for installs and some here

You need to state the model (4 door ,coupe, etc)and year of the the car and which of the three stereo systems you have to get a intelligent answer.

Thanks for your reply cutna... I have seen those and continue to search. I am interested to know what "side effect" you refer too? I cannot find anything on that othe than people saying there are side effect... I do not have bluetooth, I do not have the logic7 system... Just the base system without any features other than sound.

I am doing this to get all of the features (and sound quality) that did not come with the car. Nav, Bluetooth, DVD, etc etc etc.

I included my setup in my original post. I should have put it in my reply too. I have a 328i coupe with the base stereo system. 10 speakers I think.

Side effects are

The alarms operate through the radio system.(seat belt etc,)
The BMW programmer that is used to reprogramm the car will not
work unless the original head unit is hooked up . So if you need
updates from BMW you will have an issue an for this reason some
people mount there original head unit in the trunk or somewhere
else in the car.
The way the radio system is set up a lot of the other modules
like BMW Sos , Bluetooth have buses attached to the head unit so when
the head unit is removed they throw error codes.

If you read the dynavin thread or any of the aftermarket head unit installs
you will see this there is also a thread on installing the old head unit in the trunk,

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin

Stock speaker are all 2 ohm you need to figure that in when doing the power
calculation.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518358

That is a pretty expensive head unit(kenwood) the dynavin is only about 719 from caraudiocarze
as indicated the above link
