The issue has to be linked to either the car software or the MIC. BMW have replaced my MIC twice, so they say.

Has anyone had their software in the upgraded and if so did that make any difference?
I guess the mic changes didn't make any difference for you? Have you tried any other BMW's where it sounded better than yours? I'd think it would be related to the car as well, but I'll be curious to see Jspira's test results.

I'm having my software upgraded Friday. I'll let you know if its any better.

other-people-not-hearing-you is quite possibly a phone issue; I've tested phones that didn't honor the "don't do noise suppression" command from the carkit, so *both* the carkit and the phone were running noise suppressors. The result is often not pretty, depending on the phone.

Phones on the "BMW Recommended" list are fully tested and vetted to not have creepy HFP audio issues.

I just called myself and left a message from my car using my new LG VX8700 and when I listened to the message, it sounded HORRIBLE! I did it sitting still, driving with the windows up, driving with the windows down and it was all bad. When I talked to my friend, he described it as sounding like I was talking on a CB radio. I just got the phone 2 days ago, so I still have time to return it and try something else.

I found LG phones overall to be junky - so I'm not surprised

Well, this phone got rave reviews in pretty much every one I read. Also, several of the store employees seemed to steer towards the LG's.

I went down to the store and borrowed one of their RAZR's and took it out to my car. I called my friend using both the RAZR and my LG 8700. He thought they both sounded ok, and that the LG was maybe slightly more like I was in a tunnel, but not offensively so. I guess the jury is still out.

So what non-PDA verizon phone made the top of your list?

I have a Sony Ericsson z520a. Don't know if it is the phone or my Nav system, but sometimes the phone rings and rings and rings and the Nav screen does not change to let me answer it through it! And the phone itself just crawls if I dare use it directly, so I can't even open it up to pick up the call because by the time its screen comes up, the call has gone to voice mail. And when the phone gets like that, any navigation through it (like to view or send a message, or anything else) takes forever, if I'm lucky. Has anybody else experienced this? It does not happen ALL the time, but MOST of the time. Any ideas?

P.S. We drove friends and family crazy with "how does this one sound?"
Interesting. I'm due for a new phone next week, and the Verizon KRZR is on top of my list. Did you find it poorer than other VW phones or would you say the carrier service was a major factor?

The numbe of mobiles I tested isn't enough to jump to a conclusion but all in all, the GSM mobiles sounded way better than the CDMA mobiles.

The tests were done from exactly the same spot, which had excellent reception for all mobile operators.

That having been said, the Q didn't sound as bad as the others from what I recall.

Have you tried the LG CU500? I was thinking of getting one of those as my "going out phone". I could use that in the car instead of my 750 if need be.
