Cited for failure to obey a traffic control device

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you have dealt with this or a similar citation. The "Nature of Offense" is as follows: Failed to obey the instructions of an applicable official traffic control device.

The officer was actually really nice about it. I was clocked at 74 in a 45. I was the only one on the road so I was clearly hit. However, I don't brake when I see a cop radaring. Braking hard makes the front end dip and a cop knows that YOU know that you were speeding. He actually brought this up and was like you didn't even slow down after you passed me. But he didn't know I was engine braking....

Anyway, it's only $120 fine so I'm going to plead guilty and pay it. But does this affect insurance at all? Officer told me there are no points but is there something else I need to worry about? Suspension of license or anything?

I know PA and NJ DOT work together so whatever I get in PA transfers over to my NJ record :/

Thanks.

There's no clear answer, it's individual for everyone. Most likely insurance rates won't change. Is this your first offense?

And wait, he didn't give a speeding ticket but a citation for 74 in 45? Very nice cop indeed. Call his precinct, get their address and send him a bottle of nice wine.

I would do traffic school or hire a traffic attorney to resolve, from my experience all tickets have potential to raise your insurance

No....Third. All 3 were about 30 over. 77 in a 45....no points ticket, $800 fine, no record (except in that county). 90 in a 55 with wreckless driving....5 points, wreckless dropped.

Now this one.

I have a feeling he saw my NJ record and saw the 90 in a 55 (btw I was pulled over in Philly). But he asked me before looking up my record if this was my first time being pulled over. I said no sir. I think being honest with him is what got me out of it.

That's a good a idea...sending a gift. I think it's a little creepy but nonetheless a good idea.

I got the exact same ticket in Florida for 40 in a 25. It was a 50 dollar fine in FLA

However - it translates into a 2 point running a stop sign ticket in Jersey. That was painful.

Yeah you are good, pay the 120 and enjoy the break you got.

I have gotten this same citation (a couple times) from local cops mainly by just acting contrite. I think on one hand cops have been issuing these because its like guaranteed revenue/quota for them. Nobody is going to risk fighting that ticket when you can pay $120 and know you have no points/insurance increases.

Was it Philadelphia police or a State Trooper? I have noticed here in Plymouth Township (where I recently got hit for 59 in a 25 and got the same citation) cops pulling people over left and right. Most recently I saw a car barely run through a yellow left turn arrow and immediately get pulled over. I have to think its all about revenue.

I got that ticket when I was 16 and its 2 points. Plead not guilty and just get no points and a bigger fine. Believe or not the cop looked out for you by giving you that. That ticket could be for anything so it doesn't look as bad as speeding. I was doing 91 in a 55 and got that and plead guilty like a fool.

Well the officer told me that it wasn't any points. This was in Philly btw.

I know he was looking out for me. I am greatly appreciative that he gave me this ticket instead of a speeding ticket.

Like extremely grateful. You don't even understand. Another ticket like this would make me lose my license :/

I need to slow down!

OP - lucky break. One more and you lose your license!? I'd probably never drive.

Damn where in Plymouth township?

I was driving through there at one point last year, saw cops literally just pulling people over and giving them tickets for speeding. They had a trap setup - guy with a radar gun radioing ahead to a cop at the stoplight, who was waving people over. 25MPH zone, they gave out tickets for going as little as +1 over (my neighbor got ticketed going 26MPH). At least 6 or 7 cars were pulled over, they couldn't fit anymore on that little side street. Can't remember the name of the street ...
No other reason for doing than other than generating revenue ...

It was at the intersection of Plymouth Rd and W Germantown Pike. I saw it too (we just had lunch there at Plaza Azteca).

They do that same thing on rte 30 by villanova, especially coming down the hill toward bryn mawr. They set up those strips on the road and then they have a cop down at the next light pulling people over into a parking lot. They don't do it for 1mph over though bc everyone flies on that road so it's easy to get people going 20 over. Blatant revenue generation from selective enforcement
