Question Wavetrac Vs. Quaife LSD Differentiation?

as far as i can read they are both torque biasing differentials, so in simple terms what are the main differences between these two LSDs?

i know the welded diff is a factor, so is manual/auto, as well as ratios?

so in simple terms can anyone sum up for me and the rest of the forum the pros/cons/differences between these two?

also i noticed in the sponsor FS section there is only quaife lsd for automatics and manuals have both wavetrac and quaife... so is wavetrac only for manuals?

Search if you want a full explanation.
Cliff's notes: Both are Torsen-type LSDs. Both are arguably one of the best performance mods you can make to the 335. Both have similar installations. In 99.999% of daily driving & track use you would never be able to tell the difference.

Wavetrac is less $, USA company, tension at zero load provides more lock when one wheel is airborn or on glare ice with no friction.

Quaife has long history of reliability, better lubrication.

Bottom line: This is a coin flip IMO. Stop wasting time worrying about minute differences and buy either one. Most important issue is to get the chunk installed properly by a very experienced shop into your final drive.

One difference is I got the wavetrac NOT the quaife...just joking both are great, quaife has more rep out there, wavetrac has a bit more going on feature wise and is cheaper

I got stuck heading up an incline yesterday - left tire off the ground. Dry surface.

Are you saying that the Wavetrac didn't do what one of its key features promised to do?

I guess I could have given it more gas (and it might have pulled )- like the jersey shore guy in the vid who put one tire up with a floor jack.

When I noticed it was not moving normally - I put it in neutral and rolled back and hit the incline at more of a straight shot.

Keep in mind that neither quaife or wavetrac are 100% locking.

Both go from :
"some % greater than zero but near zero" -> "some % less than 100"

With one wheel off the ground (or spinning out), both wavetrac and quaife function at or near their minimal lock %. ( I refer to : "some % greater than zero but near zero" )

In the spinning wheel case, the quaife is closer to zero lock % than the wavetrac, but both are at a low % regardless.

If you want to get up a hill with one wheel pulling, you will need one of these :
1) drag spool
2) air locker
3) torque activated clutch locker (eg. os giken. Note : it would also require romping on the gas at the start to initiate the lock.)

A viscous LSD will not help you, neither will a centripetal force actuated clutch LSD.

If your wheel is spinning simply apply a little pressure to the brakes. This will load up the wheel and put more power to the grounded wheel.
