GPS - how to cancel a route ?
How do you cancel a programmed guidance route on the GPS ? i.e., I decided I don't want to go there anymore...
I've encountered it before and know it can be done but the damned UI is not very intuitive and I can never remember where to find it. My kludgy workaround is to mute the speaker and try to remember to catch the display when it asks if you want to resume or cancel an existing route the next time you start the car. But more often than not I miss it and the GPS resorts to following the last programmed destination. I browsed through my manual but did not see any discussion about this (unless I plainly missed it). Thanks. (2007 328i w/ Navi) |

The top left of the map itself has the "return" to the previous menu screen icon. The menu along the left of the map display has the "speaker mute" icon at the top. Could our firmware be different ? My car is an '07.
I tried the voice command and it seems to work fine. I guess there is some usefulness to the voice commands after all I'd still like to know how to do it manually if anyone knows. Thanks. |

There's a weird "DOT-ARROW" symbol on the left column of the navigation screen, push your knob to the left and scroll to that dot-arraw symbol and clikc on it to cancel guidance.

In my car clicking on that "DOT-ARROW" just seems to suspend the navigation and put a "not" bar through the icon. Clicking on it again resumes navigation to the previous destination.

That is correct. Functionally this "suspend" is identical to "cancelling" the guidance. It just recalculates the last route when you hit the dot-arrow button again.

Go to navigation screen, scroll down to the address your guidance is set to (it'll have a little arrow next to it), press the knob and select "stop navigation".

pretty sure this is right, though I'm not in my car so I'm not 100%...I agree though, it's not intuitive at all. I like the idea of using the voice command, I'll try that next time

go back to the navigation menu (from home, push the controller down)
from the first box, (the recent destinations), the first is the one its navigating to just click on it, and a submenu will come up which allows you to cancel it |
