Remove Stock Dead Pedal?

I am trying to install an aftermarket aluminum dead pedal. I have to screw the new aluminum one to the stock plastic dead pedal. I would like to remove it first so I have proper access to predrill my screws. Anyone remove this? I have tried to pull really hard but it feels like I am going to snap it off.
I have also searched the DYI section and I can't find anything regarding the stock dead pedal removal.

No need to use the stock dead pedal. Cleaner look just screwing into the flooring.

I pulled my old OEM off and glued the M pedal down.

Did it just screw into the floor by hand or did you need to drill holes into the metal first?
