FYI E92 Corona Ring / Angel Eye

For those who constantly ask how the E92 Corona Ring works... here are good pictures explanation why inner ring is brighter then outter ring.

Hopefully, vendor who is developing product can use this info to develop a better solution to get the outter ring shine better.

Thanks for always being a wealth of information. If we needed a lighting moderator, you'd be my first recommendation.

thats an awesome diagram, where did you find that??

maybe i could try and do some work on the e92's, but i dont have an extra one to play with myself.

My honest opinion though - LED will NOT work for these. LED's produce too much heat and need proper heatsinking. halogen bulbs allow the heat to escape from the large lens and can run very hot. with LED's the heat escapes from the back and are supposed to be kept under 70 C or so.

In such a small area i dont see much of an option honestly other then using the standard H8 bulb or a Xenon h8

has anyone notice? Looking at the first illustration, the light tube.. closer to the H8 VS the ring.... its put in different color....as if its two different material join together by another short ring.... very weird..

its hard to believe that LED will produce same amount of heat generate by the Halogen..

This weekend, I am going to do an experiment. I have a 3W LED flashlight... that concentrate the light into beam... and shine it to the tube.. to see the brightness it produce.

also, looking at that 2nd picture, look carefully at the Light output indicate by the yellow arrow. You will notice that the BMW knew that the design of the ring is flawed. THey have the bigger yellow arrow on the inner ring.. and the outter ring.. they use small and dimmer yellow arrow....

good info. thanks!

but idk if it's "flawed" per se. not like they couldn't get the both rings to light up equally bright if they wanted to. but for whatever reasons, it came down to be like this.

anyways, hope someone can find a way to make the angel eyes light up equally bright.

hard to beleive, try driving 1 LED at 1000ma of power and see how fast they get hot. Better yet, hold one in your hand and count how long it takes for you to get a blister

Seriously - LED's have gotten to the point where they are not only VERY efficient, but able to handle a lot of power.

With your 3w luxeon flashlight - go ahead and try, it will probalby loook bright. However i can Definately help you with choosing the right LED for the application.

 try the LED flash light... try to shine into the tube from an angle.. don't work.. try to shine the 3W led into the middle of the tube at 90 degree don't work.. at 45 degee.. don't work.

THe only place that the light can enter is at the either end... Oh well.. back to halogen bulb.... until someone customize something...

Come on, someone has GOT to figure this out. I would pay for a solution to the "dimmer" outer ring.

Why doesn't someone just fabricate an LED or a bulb that directs it into the cable that lights up the outer ring? The main bulb or LED lighting up the inner ring wouldn't have to be too bright because of the way its mounted with the reflective mirroring all around it (at least I think).

MDS couldn't u use an unit thats like

||
[ ]=

Sort of? Just like an LED sticking out to the left side? or am I over-simplifying this?

thanks so much for this info! i was having an issue with the weisslicht led angel eyes because it wasn't lighting up the outer ring. found out the LEDs weren't facing the tube to go to the outer ring!
