Help! JB4 install trouble - car wont start UPDATE - GOT IT WORKING
UPDATE - GOT IT WORKING. The small black and small white oem subconnectors on my car were reversed. Hooked them up the other way and it worked.
I will leave everything in this post and thread in case anyone else runs into a similar confusion and needs help. Thanks to everyone who chipped in, much appreciated. ================================================== ========= ** put this in email but forgot on here - installing in a 2008 535i ** Hey guys, I picked up a JB4 on there last week and finally got around to installing it today. I've done a bit of modding in the past and found it very easy to get to and install, followed the guide and triple checked everything, but am either missing something or not getting a good connection. My ecu is actually reversed from the pics (small is on the left, large on the right) and on the small side I have white and gray connectors rather than black and gray. Here is a diagram of how I hooked it up, and how the pnp guide shows. After install the car tied to start but would not. I re-seated everything but still no luck. Pulled it out and hooked back up to stock and had no problem. Any thoughts or ideas?? Last edited by UFGator535; 05-13-2011 at 05:53 PM.. |

one of two things, you either have one or more of the subconnectors backwards or you didn't connect the power wire.
if the jb4 harness has black wires it goes in the larger subconnector, red wires in the small subconnector.

Anyone know if it is safe to flip the subconnectors around to test and see if one was backwards? I did not want to do this without checking first. By flip around, I mean disconnect one set, turn one of them 180, and then reconnect. I connected them all with the large, thin open slot all on the same sides. |

the connectors shouldn't be forced in under any circumstance, they should just slide in easily. Also, the arrows on the subconnectors should not be on the same side when connected.

Yep, pin 2 for power.
I'm going to pull back apart tomorrow if it's not raining and get some pics of the stock setup/layout to confirm colors of connectors. Thanks for the help so far! |
