Air Bag Sensor

Hey Guys, FIRST of all, if this is a repost, I'm sorry...I searched a bit (30 minutes) and didn't see any other post addressing the following question exactly so I will ask away.

As many of you know, there was a recall on the Air Bag Mat Sensor for the 2006 E90 (MY 2005). Recently, my car has been the next victim to this recall as my air bag warning light will go on and off intermitently, sometimes it goes off, sometimes it doesn't. I checked my car and found out it has a manufactured date of 11/05. So I called BMW North America, and my local dealership and told them what was up. I gave them my VIN and they told me that my car was not part of the recall; but, I can come in and have them diagnose the car. They told me that if it was the faulty mat sensor then they will replace it no questions ask; but if it wasn't, I have to cough up $200 for their diagnosis. My question is: Does anyone know an SA or a dealership that would be willing to check this out for free or at least lower than that? I am fairly certain that it is the recalled air bag sensor, but I don't really want to take the chance when taking it into a stealership.

Thanks ahead for your response!

J0hnny,

I am having the same issue on my 06 330i... Haven't taken care of it yet as i am not sure what to do, and I'm frustrated to shell out $800+ to fix an issue that should be recalled. Let me know what you find out.

i've been having similar problems. my passenger doesnt sit completely all the way back and with just a little movement, it throws off the sensor and the airbag isnt working due to such. is this the same problem?

AJ, If they are charging you $800 that is just wrong. Check your car to see when it was made; I believe the MY should be on your driver's door column. After giving BMW my VIN, they told me that my car wasn't part of the recall (which i thought was ridiculous cause my MY was definitely within the recall period of February 2005 to November 2005). They told me to bring in my car and they will diagnose it and if I actually do have the faulty sensor they will replace it for free but if not, I have to pay $200 cause they diagnosed it.

33five, that sounds like it; what's the MY of your car?
