AA Tune Problems

Hey guys,
I took my 2006 e90 325i in to get the active autowerke tune about 3 days ago. When I first picked it up I noticed better throttle response and a very noticeable increase in power over 4k RMPs. This acceleration came as kind of a jerk (imagine when you downshift and floor it), and only happens under moderately heavy usage of the right foot. Since I have never had a car tuned before, I am assuming this isn't unusual. Unfortunately, after about a hundred miles, I now have the "service engine soon" light on. Since this light came on I have noticed a slightly rougher idle. Also, if the car is in 2nd gear and going ~5-10MPH and I give it lots of gas it jerks (throwing everyone forward) and feels like it's going to stall before it takes off (throwing everyone backwards again).

So my questions are:
1) Is the service engine soon light caused by the tune or is it something I need to worry about?
2) Is the choppy acceleration I'm experiencing normal?
3) Is it normal for tuned cars to be touchy in low RMPs like what I am experiencing?
4) And finally should I be taking this back to get it looked at?

From what ive heard from my fellow peeps on here the tune smooths everything out, no jerkiness at all. and deffinitly no SES light. If i had to take a wild guess id say its a coil thats gone bad from what you describe, alot of the 06's are starting to get around the miles where the coil packs start shitting out, I had a buddy with a 07 328 who has already replaced all 6 of his and i think he had about 75k miles on his and he had that rough jerkiness like u describe...so i wouldnt be shocked if its that or maybe a bad plug.

I'm pretty sure its the coils. These things are horrible. In the last six months I think my dealer replaces 3 or 4. My car has 84K Miles and I'm expecting that last2 to crap out anytime now.

As soon as 1 went out I would of replaced them all. I bet the AA tune has nothing to do with the roughness. My money is on coils, plugs, or bad gas.

Indeed, I have an '06 330xi and after getting the AA tune my car ran like butter.

Not sure why you're getting choppy accel at around 4k. The 3stage intake on the 330's will have that due to the intake design, but 325's shouldn't.

Thanks for all the replies. I will take the car in and get the coils changed soon and see if that helps.
If I take it to the dealership they won't mess with the tune right?

Im telling u plugs and coils are a very easy DIY, you can order the parts yourself and do it yourself and save alot. The whole job from hood up to hood down is about an hour.

looks like online at getbmwparts.com coils are 45.80 each and oem bosch or ngk plugs are 18.10 each, so around 380 for everything...

I just ordered coils today from tischer (came to right under 300 shipped for all 6) and 6 NGK plugs for 65 shippped. (Look in the Maint forum for the place that has them that cheap, I made a post about it.) Not sure where you got the 380 number with your prices lol. Just the plugs alone before shipping at 18 bucks a pop would be almost 120.

It's the same DIY. You have to remove the coils to replace the plugs.

1.) Haven't had a chance to diagnose yet. I'm going to be away this weekend so I was planning on checking codes monday or tuesday.
2.) About 100
3.) K&N drop in filter, Charcoal delete, Magnaflow exhaust
4.) Always 93. Almost always shell v-power

Thanks I appreciate the support directly from AA!

Don't just change coils because someone told you.....unless you car is shaking (side to side), I doubt it's a coil issue.

Get your car scanned. Post the codes on here.

It could be anything from a sticking vanos solenoid to a faulty MAF sensor.

If you're having the same coil pack changed then it's not your coil pack.....it's something else that's causing that coil pack to fail. (Faulty charging system, bad spark plugs/injectors, etc)

OP, have you tried resetting all your adaptations? You'll need a scan tool for that....or you can take it to the dealer, better yet an indy if you are out of warranty.

FYI, you can go to places like Autozone to get a free code scan.
