Anyone running JB4 overtop of Dinan tune?

I currently have a Dinan S2 tune and wanted to pick up the gains from my other mods so I am going to install the JB4.

Has anyone done this without removing the Dinan tune first? I hear it is fine as the JB4 will just use the Dinan tune in the "stock" setting, but I was just curious if anyone has experience.

Thanks!

You are correct, the JB4 can "overwrite" the Dinan info while instaled and replace the car to stock setting and you get all the benefits of the JB4. I would reach out to Terry to get more detailed information on this.

Thanks, I emailed Terry.

I understand the assumptions, and I was skeptical too.

The JB4 will super-cede the Dinan tune. If you want to keep the Dinan I suggest the JB+ (Flash version), but if you are getting rid of the Dinan and moving to the JB4, then its best to flash back to stock if the JB4 is your long term plan.

Explain to me how the JB4 can overwrite the Dinan Flash? Makes zero sense. I could understand using the JB+ for a modest gain but not the JB4

I think override is the better term to use

Maybe filter out is a better term than overwrite. This has been around since January.

This is directly from Terry
"We get a lot of emails from Dinan or other lower boost flash tunes asking what we can do to boost their output a bit. Normally, we suggest going back to OEM tuning. But that isn't always practical due to the cost to flash back to stock, etc. So we've made a low boost JB+ to add a psi or so. Now with the JB4 they have a new option.

The JB4 can basically filter out the flash tuning and deliver them normal JB4 like performance. We have a couple guys testing it now and it works very well. Same principle that is used with the 335is, BMW power kit, etc. Getting a flash, being disappointed with the performance, and throwing a JB4 on top of it is not the cheapest way to go but it is a viable option."

I would suggest not wasting the advantages of the flash you already have and instead adding a JB+ (there is a special version for flashes which is adjustable) on top of Dinan and up the boost 1-1.5 psi and see if the added power is enough for you. This setup may be equivalent to JB4 map 1-2 and it has some advantages like you don't have to open the ECU area at all and Dinan will still govern most of the ECU logic.

I hear you but my concern is, after reading Mr. 5's post, that he suggest using race gas/meth with this setup. I don't have meth and race gas seems like a hastle.

Well...please do NOT confuse Dinan S2 with GIAC S2 Race. The resulting boost in that situation was about 18.xpsi. The GIAC Stage 2 Race timing is reaching 15 degrees, which is alot for the N54 compression ratio.

I read that Dinan S2 boost levels are lower than even GIAC Stage 1 levels.

Adding a JB+ on top of Dinan S2 and upping it 2psi will probably just raise the boost to about 15psi or even less, which does not require race gas, especially given the fact that Dinan controls timing and the timing advance is probably lower than stock.
