Sept 24th ED of 335i E90 can't guarantee MY2008. Roll dice?

Hey, I got an ED confirmation about a week ago for a Sept 24th ED of a 335i E90. I had asked for a MY2008. I wanted to go to Munich during Oktoberfest.

I login to owner's circle and see that the vehicle is in the system as a 2007. My CA did some checking around and they cannot "guarantee" a 2008 MY for September delivery. He offered to cancel and reschedule the delivery. The ED center is definitely closed for the first two weeks of October, and my CA just heard on the monthly conference call that there would be no EDs during October at all! My next option is November, which my wife won't like because of the climate. I was only able to talk her into Sept because of Oktoberfest.

So first of all I'm trying to determine the probability of receiving MY2007 vs MY2008. I hear they shut the plant at the beginning of August to switch over model years. So for me to get a 2007, my car would have to sit for almost 2 months waiting for me. Does this seem right? I always thought ED was created to see your car "roll of the assembly line"? How close have you guys production dates been to your ED dates? Anyone picked up around September in previous years? Any other factors I need to consider in figuring the probability?

Also I need to figure out whether I even want a MY2008. I will be purchasing the vehicle. I was a bit worried about issues with the early MY2007s affecting their resale. Now I'm almost just as worried about the price increase of the MY2008s with the demand of 335is and the strength of the Euro. Any recommendations here?

Crazy,
I can't say for sure, but it is likely that you will get an '07. I have done this twice before and had to miss Oktoberfest in order to get the subsequent model year. I will again be getting an '08 this year and it will be on the 18th of October. It's an E92, but it is normally the first week of October they begin delivery. Not sure why, but the dates which stick in my head for my last two are Oct. 6th and October 8th. I've waned late September for just the reason you do, Oktoberfest!

The car is normally ready a month ahead of delivery. (ask Irv to confirm) You don't actually purchase the car until it is sitting there ready. This is to say that on my last pickup on October 8th, the car was ready on September 8th.

I frankly think it is worth it to wait for the MY2008. Not sure what changes they have is store, but for the small amount of extra time, I would try and catch the tail end of Oktoberfest, say October 1st and then try to get the car and hang out another week. The times are so close and once you are there, you don't want to come back.

Best of luck in your planning.

PS. Are you going to have it shipped to the PCD as well? You can do both now. Same discount, both delivieries, one sweet deal!

+1 Mr. F1 is correct on all counts.
Honestly the 24th is really rolling the dice to get a 08. At the end of Sept., it's a roll too but slightly better chance. Most times the 1st week of Oct. is the earliest to be safe. I believe I've read some people have made it by picking up like the 28 or 29th of Sept., but that's in a normal year. This year is very abnormal due to the high demand for the e92 and 93s along with the new delivery center.

Good luck though.

the ED delivery point is like an airport hanger (with a lobby and cafe attatched), it is not at the actual factory. They do over 100 deliveries per working day at the ED center, mostly to Europeans. The ED experience is wonderful, the pick up is quick and easy, on the road in about a half hour after arriving to ED center.

I would wait for the 2008 model year, I kind of wish I waited a few months and got the 2007.

Another thing to consider which is why I delayed a bit is that BMW Welt is opening early October. It is my understanding from JSpira that he will get his 550 on opening day, October 15th. I look forward to getting mine at the BMW Welt as well. This will be well worth the wait.

Thanks for the info guys.

I am doing the PCD. That was the bit of good news I got from my CA yesterday. I am really looking forward to that part also.

I'm going to push my date back, but I'll try and get my CA to squeeze in around Oct 15th-18th if they ever open October back up for EDs. May be able to catch the tail end of Oktoberfest that ends Oct 7th. Think there is any chance for this?

Does anyone know if the BMW museum will be open at the same date as the delivery center?
