Yes, it should be changed every 18,000 miles or 2 years, whichever is the sooner.

Tsssk...........On a serious note, what is the average life of a turbo on a D? I supose if you are the type of person who likes to drive cars with galactic mileage then getting a turbo refurb at say 100K might make better sense than waiting for it to blow and wreck the engine. All good in theory but I know that some have died at less than 50k which makes it a total lottery.

He was joking. Most turbo cars will never need them replacing.
It's a bit like a steering rack in the sense that it will likely never fail but the chances of failure grow with age. |

If you stick to the service intervals and change the oil often enough, I do mine every 7k miles. It should last. I also let the car idle for a few minutes after a drive but I read this isn't really necessary on modern turbo diesel. Won't do any harm though. |

If you search on here there seem to be quite a few that have expired at around 70 - 80k miles. But then I guess that problems on forums represent a very small percentage of cars sold... Mine is on 78k with no turbo issues (yet - touches wood!)
