Snow Leopard 10.6.7?
Make sure that you have run Software Update and installed Snow Leopard Font Update:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1377 If already installed/doesn't fix it, try the local Apple Store. Good luck! ![]()

10.5.8? The latest is 10.6.7. Try getting the Snow Leopard DVD and upgrading first, and then take it to an apple store. Worst case, get a new screen from iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts). They also have good DIY guides.

Software Not Hardware
Quote:
I would update OSX to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 ($30) before they release the more expensive Lion this June. If you don't want to spend the money, try running Font Book (search your drive, it's part of the OS) to ID and fix any font issues.

I used to be the "Lead Mac Genius" at one of Apple's stores.
Apple most definitely will not install a part that you've brought in from the outside. I've never seen an exception to this policy. If you want to do it yourself, it's not an easy process. It'll take a trained technician at least a couple of hours with all the right tools and experience. Take a look at the process here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/I...Assembly/855/1 My suggestion is that you take it to Apple and ask them to do a flat-rate repair at the depot. That's generally $310 including all parts and labor, so long as it's not physical damage or a liquid spill. Sign up online for an appointment before you go. http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/ |
