Any race gas better to use than VP MS109
basically what the title says. I'm wanting to run a blend of race and pump gas to get around 100 octane. Do you guys use anything other than ms109(besides meth)? Any tips and tricks you guys have on mixing. I was thinking of running around 3 gallons of 93 in the car and mixing in 3 gallons of ms109(105 octane) which should get me right about 100. It's going on an FBO car running a JB4 on map 7.

I have an affinity for VP C16 (leaded 116 octane), but C23 (leaded 123 octane) and Q16 (unleaded 116 octane) are all fuels to look at. But at this point it's usually better to run meth injection (cost and performance wise). Meth increases your octane and yields a cooling effect no high octane gasoline can replicate...and on a boosted engine, that's huge.

Leaded fuel is hard on your O2 sensors and probably not worth ruining them since they are quite expensive.

Stick with the MS109 + 75% meth mix. I put leaded in one time and was in the shop for repair a week later getting new injectors (possible bad fuel) and a new O2 sensor.

VP MS109 is the best, for our cars. I used to run it all the time. Mixing about 2-3 gallons in my gas tank, when it was under the 1/4 tank mark.

How do you guys calculate how much pump gas you have remaining in the tank? I was going to take the amount of miles remaining and divide that by the average MPG i'm getting, but I know that that is a bit inaccurate. I was hoping to only have 3-4 gallons of 93 octane in the tank before I mix in the ms109.

I think if your miles say "0" then you have about 1 gallon left. I hope that helps.

So if I have say 60 miles remaining and I average 20mpg both on my display, then I in effect have 3 gallons to 0 with an additional gallon after that. So, grand total would be approximately 4 gallons? If I mix in 4 gallons of ms109 at 105 octane with my pump gas of 93 octane and divided I'd have about 99 octane? MS109 is rated at 105 octane before the mix right?

Is there any particular reason you want to leave 3-4 gallons of 93 in? Why not drain your tank and then throw in the MS109? You will have a higher overall octane then and get a little more out of the cost of buying the race fuel.
EDIT: By drain I don't mean literally drain, but drive it until you burn up what fuel is in the tank. Last edited by jdbretz; 06-08-2011 at 05:53 PM.. |
