water pump failure!!! Oil leak!
here is the issue,
i would here a noise coming from the engine bay after car has been locked; thaught it would go away, the service engine light would come on with an oil change message. Next morning the battery was dead. took it to dealer who said the electric sensor died and the water pump would start even when the car was off. They ordered a new water pump. Dealer also noticed oil leaks and advised to change 4 oil gaskets!! i am wondering wheter it might be linked to my catless dp install 4 months ago! My car is 2007 e90 with about 38 k miles on it! Any ideas? did anyone have the same issue |

i can't imagine anything that could have caused oil leaks from a dp install, unless they really butchered things lol, its pretty straight forward, no oil involved under normal circumstances

Yeah you will be surprised what the BMW electronics can do to your car when they go Bazzark. Sarch for August - september time frame of 2007 and into early 2008, I have many many posts of my car going completely crazy, lights not working, doors not locking etc, etc. 5 months of weird issues, even GPS showing me 5 states away over some lake from where I actually was at the dealer. My issues were only remedied by BMW gutting out all the CCC, Most bus, Amplifier, modules etc and replacing with everything new. I too would wonder how it was all related, but it was. My car is a June 07 build so had a ton of issues since worked out, but yup, wouldn't surprise me. Oh and no codes at all were ever thrown. BMW took a toss a coin guess trial and error approach because I went to 5 different dealers none of them could diagnoze what was wrong. BMWNA stepped in and offered me a so-so buy back. I declined, and took their other option to let them gut the car replace all electronics instead. 3 weeks of work, and car was good as new. To this day, not a single electrical issue has returned.

There are no codes. The module plays a role with power transfer. It cannot be reset only coded. The dealer was hesitant to change it but it seems now that its the solution but getting the car back to them is a mission for me.

It wasn't related to any of the mods and only got noticed when the battery went dead the second or third time when the car overheated and I realized the pump was burnt. Up until that point I thought my wife was leaving the car with ignition on overnight

Funny. I have also had dead battery twice this year, but since the car is at dealer I had them diagnose it, and they told me I drive the car too little and thats what is causing the battery to die. Basically both times I drove the car the night before after it had sat for a week to two weeks, then the next morning it would be completely dead. I believed them because both time I hadly drove enough to warm up the car, so they said I need to drive the car more and for longer. I'll keep an eye out for pump running when the car is off, even though I know its normal for it to run for a bit after you shut off the car.

it looks like these cars will never be reliable!
my history with this car is exhaustive, there is always something: -2 hpfp failures -steering wheel lock failure - 2 door lock issues - 1 injector failure - brake squeaking all the time - turbo lag - wastegate rattle - front wind shield crack and replacement - tank fuel filter replacement and now the issues mentioned above if i start counting the time in dealer, it would be in the months! the car is only 3,5 years and had issues starting year 1. WILL NEVER CONSIDER BUYING A BMW EVER |

[QUOTE=vase330;9776795]I had temparamental E46 M3 that I got so sick of I traded it for a new E46 330ci which had the infamous GM steptronic in it. (search no reverse and class action suit it goes on for many pages). After 2 steptronic failures last which I had to pay $6K out of pocket for, I swore same exact thing as you. Fas forward 2007 I go to the dealer and test drove an E92 335i - it was just too much to resist. So what did I do? I went bought a new one for myself, and yes its had a gazzillion issues since day one. Some days I feel really stupid, somedays when the damn thing is working right you can't wipe the silly grin off my face. What can I say, never say never. But BMW if you are listening, you have lost many many customers from your really crappy reliability record. I was going to add a 2012 135 DCT, but with my current issues I am holding that off. [/QUO
This car's reliability is so bad that i am scared to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with my wife and kid!! then it will really not be funny! I hear your point, my dad had a 750i with tons of issues and warned me when i wanted to buy mine, should have listened! |
