Currently at the dealership for my first scheduled oil change service (2010 335i coupe) and requested to have my manual transmission oil changed on my own dime and was told they are sealed units and no fluid changes are necessary! Can this be true? Anyone:

for what ever reason they will spin their wheels trying to talk you out of it

Go to an independent BMW mechanic that has synthetic fluid. He may have to do it using the fill plug, depending on the design of the gearbox.

Yeah! I don't get that. I wanted to change the transmission oil too but they keep insisting it's lifetime and all that crap. My car is out of warranty, so I'm paying for it!!
I'm just waiting a bit longer to change the oil at the same time I change my clutch

Yes it's considered lifetime fluid so not covered under warranty maintenance plan, so you'll need to find an independent shop to do it..

You took your 2010 335i with approximately 15000 miles on it to the dealer and requested a change to your transmission fluid.

I am surprised they didn't want to do it - as it is pretty simple and puts dollars in their pockets, but at the same time, I don't know that it is necessary.

I am no oil expert, and I do change the BMW lifetime fluids with greater frequency than every 100k miles, but I would say that every 15k might be more than necessary.

Now to apply my protection....

It use to be part of the break in service for new cars at 1200 mile before it was done away with. Cleans out any metals and replaces the oil. But they won't do it unless "catastrophic failure occurs" - seriously, this is what they told me.

So BMW Indy shop here I come and thereafter every 30K probably, as specified in Mike Miller's Old School Maintenance Schedule.
