License plate LEDs that aren't brighter than the stock bulbs?

I've been thinking about ditching the stock halogen license plate bulbs in favor of something a bit less yellow, but all the LED plate lights I've seen have been brighter than the stock bulbs throw too much light (some of which winds up visible on the ground) or are too blue. Anyone have any recommendations for ones that are no brighter (or even a bit dimmer) than the stock bulbs and have a pure white instead of bluish white color? Thanks.

BUy the LEDs.. if they are "too bright," then partially cover them with black electrical tape until desired light output is achieved.

I didn't even think of that. I could tint spray the housing as well for the same effect. Alright, now I just have to find some that aren't bluish and I'll be good to go.

Thanks for the advice!

I've heard good things about the WeissLicht replacement housings [found @ bimmian.com], mixed reviews on the RDash, and not a whole lot on the City Vision product [found @ **********s.com]

Yeah, I feel like that head/tail smoking film is perfect for what you need. Good luck!

If OEM won't throw errors, that sounds like a really nice solution. And if it does, coding out wouldn't be too difficult. That's a solid option to consider.

the connector in LCI cars is different to pre-LCI. It's just a matter of fabricating a simple harness from $5-6 worth of connectors from BMW. 2 solutions to eliminate errors--coding them out, or incorporating a small bulb into the harness as a guy did on a 5 series forum.

I'd be happy to write up a DIY but seems I'll never have the time to get to it with the maintenance/mod list currently backed up for me...

The above are a little whiter and a little brighter then stock.

Not as bright as the modules found here:

Stay with stock, most of these branded ones are the same with different pricing.

I have the premium LED modules from HPB... SUPER BRIGHT.. Although, they do flicker upon car start for a good 5 seconds and than they are solid...

Here are pics...

I have the entire interior kit from HPB... Will post better pictures when I take out my digital camera instead of my phone camera...

Do all the non-OEM LEDs do this? It'd bother me, especially in a parking lot or something.

I'm going for the OEM look, but trying to save a few bucks since the OEM LED replacement is like $50 shipped or something and then requires me to go out and buy some resistors to solder on to avoid throwing codes.

Is there such thing as OEM led?

And I purchased the entire kit from hpb and noticed that the license plate and sidemarkers flicker when you start it up for about 5 seconds Max and their good.... the interior lights don't flicker.... haven't checked if my lux AE flicker or not...

Regardless there is no codes with the hpb kit... just flickering which I thought wouldn't happen with this kit...

Yeah, newer models have OEM LEDs, I believe 2008+.

I was going to say I'm surprised they flicker then I saw you had a 2006, then I was surprised they even work

Our interior kit should not flicker though.

The 06 and 07 models are such a pain to work with thats where the flickering comes in and all the canbus stuff. You will notice a lot of companies always say 08+ on a lot of their lighting stuff but the reality is a lot of the 06 and 07 guys are the ones who need the lighting stuff.
Eitherway when they are on they sure are bright. I went back to stock LED on my car cause I rather not make it any easier for the police to see my plate

Truth be told on the license plate modules we all get them from the same place so they should all function similar.

The interior kit on the other hand has some custom pieces to give it the edge.
