First full exterior detail - lots of pic's ....

Hi all,

Have has the motor for about 2.5 months and due to one thing or another, (usually crappy weather, work or such like), have maintained at least a weekly wash / polish / wax regime going but nothing more, which I was determined to rectify.
This was bought to a head, when last Sunday morning, my son got up, opened his curtains and looked out and saw my car covered in 'paint'!!!! (It actually turned out to be bird poo, but nothing like I have ever seen before, the car was totally plastered, EVERY panel, window, bumpers, door mirrors). Panic set in, as I know first hand the detremental effect this stuff can have on paint if left too long, so used insect / bug cleaner on it and jet washed it off, but too late, there were the tell tale marks everywhere the stuff had been, etched into the paint!!!

So a few days ago, made the necessary arrangements with a very good friend of mine, Anil, who is a total 'hardcore' detailer, (will post link to his thread on another forum, has a black individual champage edition E39, which I swear to you is an absolute mint example).

So pitched up at about midday at his and he gave me a 'idiots' guide on the best way to clay the paintwork, (have had the Meguirs claying kit sat in my garage for about 2 years, a bit apprehensive in using it to be honest), and so proceeded to clay the car. As I completed each panel, he then went over it with his super duper DA orbital thingy and used a medium cutting / polishing paste. This was then followed by a super fine finishing polish and then a coat of my BMW car wax.
Got home about 5pm, but car had lots of polishing dust in all the usual crevices, (boot / bonnet recesses, window crevices etc), so used some Duragloss car wash, with a couple of caps of some wash stuff I bought from Aldi's, (very good stuff, with canuba wax added). Washed, leatherd and m/f cloth dried off and put a coat of Autoglym super resin polish, and buffed off.

At about 7am this morning, (due to be a VERY hot day, so thought I'd get in before the sun came up and panels became too hot), put 2 coats of Duragloss polish, (which protects against all the usual elements, tree sap and bird poo), followed by another coat of BMW car wax, also has natural canuba wax added.

Slicked the tyres and the results are as follows, hope the pics do the car and paint / colour justice, enjoy:

Links, as promised ...

All,

Only real mod that I am looking to do at present, is get a rear bootlid lip spoiler, but am having issues at present getting the right colour.

As it is an individual paint, most places will not do a 'one-off' and BMW want the best part of £300 ....

Anyway, as promised, the links to Anils Absolutely mint E39, champagne edition ...
