LED Headlights?
Ever since the new Audi A8 came out, I couldn't help but notice what I believe are LED headlights. I am not an Audi fan in general, but I have to admit they are very cool. I first saw these bright lights when it was dark out and thought that they were driving with normal LED lights at night which seemed very strange because it isn't very smart or safe. I then a saw two more cars with the same lights though. Is it possible to make corona LED headlights for our cars? I am getting a 2011 335is, and would love my LED daytime lights to work as headlights as well. I can't imagine how expensive it would be, but at a minimum it would be cool to see BMW use this technology in future cars. That is if they are what I thought they were. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Just wait a bit longer-- once you see aftermarket LED headlights on old Civics they won't look so luxurious anymore.
Kind of like how LED light strips are played out now.

Kia is going nuts with these in their current lineup. the cachet is fading QUICKLY. curious to see how audi and MB react.
angel eyes are more unique, though to be fair, if you look at the taillights on chevy malibus... they appear to be exactly the same thing but with a red lens! edit: just noted distinction you are making between DRL and headight. n/m |

I'm working on a custom led angel eye setup.....exactly like marc did but with a programmable circuit that will use a photo sensor to detect the ambient light. The sensor converts ambient light into voltage and will automatically dim the leds so it doesn't blind drivers at night.
In his thread, Marc mentions that he can light up his neighbors house. I guess you can use the angel eyes as lighting BUT you need to focus the light; A) So all the output is usable. Otherwise it will be inefficient. B) You don't blind on coming traffic. I'm also looking into replacing all the xenon bulbs in my headlights with LEDs but that is an entirely different project. I have the hardware. But I need to do more research as to how the projector distributes light. I also need to look into DOT regulations to make sure it is legal. I'll be doing custom led fogs aswell. Marc also did that. Not sure about his design, but I have my own (possibly similar to his) design I making. Should be done by the end of the summer. I just ordered all the LEDs, drivers, logic board, etc. But programming is going to take a bit....as well as soldering. I have to solder about 450 smt leds behind the oem rings..... And because I have work and summer classes going on.....I might not even get done this summer. BTW, it's not all that hard to do with a normal halogen housing. But using a xenon projector housing is going to be tough. |
