Question The O2 sensors curiosity.....

I changed the spark plugs, replaced the VANOS yet the ongoing SES lights, the car running lean, etc;
I probably need to change the O2 sensors (front and rear, not sure maybe 4 of them just to be safe).
The price of O2 sensors is very prohibitive, just wondering if anyone here has ever successfully replaced the O2 sensors with generic ones. If so, can you tell me what kind of O2 sensors, part numbers, etc, etc.
Thank you very much folks.....
