Some use them to avoid blueprinting and balancing the engine although that seems like a bad idea but whatever. Since I have solid engine mounts the residual vibration needs to be damped to extend the life of the engine. Doesn't really bother me but a friend always says "don't grit your teeth..." jokingly to anyone foolish enough to ride along so there's that...

Should point out the stock harmonic balancer is designed to damp the higher frequency vibration the hydraulic engine mounts can't since they're designed for the low frequency vibration. The Super Damper has more mass and a different elastomer to provide damping to a lower frequency than the stock balancer can so it's useful when going to solid or near solid engine mounts.

Looks like we're going to delete the secondaries with Supersprint midpipes after all. Not sure if everything aft of the merge will be replaced with a build using 3" thinwall stainless and a Coast Fab muffler followed by another Y and a couple of pieces of polished 3" stainless staggered and placed to duplicate the look of the PE tips. Dyno will tell us if it was all worth it, I guess.

So yeah, now I'm sure. PE muffler delete with 17" glass packed Coast Fab muffler install with 3" thinwall 304 stainless and V-band end clamps to make changing the packing each year a quick process. Adding a Y to use a couple of polished pieces of 304 to duplicate the look of the PE tips for a bit of stealth although it'll be louder than using a standard turn-down tip for track use. May have to put a second Coast Fab muffler in line if it's way too loud. Won't be able to dyno just the secondary delete but the whole changeover instead. Will post when I get some plots.

I dunno, maybe 10-15rwhp but that may be too optimistic.

haha Only differences matter and 218rwhp is the last number I remember from dyno runs. If it gets to 230rwhp that'd be great. Somewhat more interested in weight savings though.

The rest of the Aero package is also installed.
The updated body panels could be a nice update to this thread:

Oil pan baffle

Got a text this morning asking if I still wanted it installed as they'd come upon it in the pile of parts I'd delivered over the summer. Had forgotten about it. The install isn't cheap but they can do a professional job since they do it to all their cars. It's a VAC baffle for a N54 (I think) but it's not a problem to install it. Also keeps the oil sensor in place without modification as it's designed to do that. Will post on this when it's done. Ain't cheap but cheaper than installing it later once it's all back together.

Admittedly I did not know what an Accusump was, so I Googled it and learned something new today. Just in case someone else reading this finds themselves scratching their head as I did, here is a useful link.

Oil pan baffle install

It's a VAC aluminum baffle for the N54 but the N52 oil pan is steel making welding it in a bit of a problem. And the N54 oil pan is flat on the bottom but not the N52 so they skylined it to match and reduced its height to provide the correct backflow and then fab'ed some tabs and L fingers and welded them in to hold the baffle in place while applying pressure to it so the fingers put some force on it to hold it in place. Nicely done I thought.

Garage List
2019 BMW M6  [10.00]
2011 BMW 328i  [9.00]
Race seats are going in, driver's seat is in and passenger seat is ordered. Both are OMP HTE-R XL on OMP low aluminum side mounts modified to get the back lower, OMP slider on driver side only, and BimmerWorld floor adapter plates.

Passenger seat can't use a slider as it would interfere with the Accusump.

Turns out there is just enough room for the seat but the B-pillar cover can't be reinstalled. There also isn't enough room for mounting the pyro tensioners to the side mounts so the three point belt system has to be removed. This also means the Quick Fit Pro harnesses can no longer be used. So the only solution is to install a four point welded-in roll bar.

The cage shop can start in February and it'll have an X brace on the main hoop and a harness bar. The fire extinguisher couldn't be mounted in front of either seat with the VAC bracket so it'll be mounted to the roll bar using the correct mount.

The roll bar will be painted white and will have the loops for the triangular nets on both sides when the cage is completed later.

Going to have to go to full six point race harnesses, specifically OMP 0027 HSL WRC belts. And this means the SRS is now superfluous so it can go. Almost all of it is gone already with the seats but now the steering wheel can be replaced with an OMP Superquadro and a Krontec QR hub. So the roll bar will need a steering wheel hook and will add another for a helmet.

[edit] Harness has to be a DA804F with 3" shoulder belts for use with and without a HANS. [/edit]

The rear seats were coming out anyway but now the carpet comes out, too. And the rear shelf was pulled to remove all the seat belt tensioners since all the mating receptacles and the Schroth tabs can now be removed as well given the Quick Fit Pro harnesses can't be used anymore.

The rear shelf was also stripped of all foam and glue to lighten it up and will have a thin CF sheet installed to close off the openings where the seat belts were. The surprising part is that the sheet metal is painted as well as the outside of the car including clearcoat. Going to take a bit more work to finish stripping it out to bare metal when the cage is finished later.

We're leaving the front carpet section in given the amount of time it would take to strip everything out and fab the Dragonplate CF/Nomex honeycomb floorboards.

Got a chance to climb in and out of the car wearing a Pro 20 HANS and my helmet. Well, it's not going to be the best grocery getter anymore but it'll rock at the track. At least no instructor can whine about the seats without a roll bar. Looks like it might be done by March but not holding my breath.

Georgeous. Jealous. The visionary in you see any semi pro manual kits that could enhance gear engagement and speed on the track and be street legal within budget for us mortals
